She is the first famous person that I have ever met.

;)debra;) Hello. I don't know if we do or not. I am going to be a brand new member, and I am still trying to keep all of the names straight. debra Is there anyway of getting in touch with her, such a an e-mail address and that way we could send her our good wishes for her continued success. Maybe your guild has one, being she has spoken there? |
I 've been missing Liz- a LOT! Her personality is so much Lighter than Maryann's (or Mary's, who seems a very nice girl). Is she ill? Dead? Resting up? Just tired of being on TV? I wish her well, no matter, and hope she is CAN come back. Lapin

She retired... its been almost a year now I believe.
I heard that she retired for a while
Thank you so much for your comment. I guess I'm like "Doubting Thomas" if I don't hear it from the person or someone who is an eye witness, I have trouble believing. Ok, so she retired, whatever the reason and they sold the franchise. But I really, truly wish we could tell her how much she has meant to us!

I think one lives in Colorado and one in Texas, or has that always been the case.
Maybe we can pass one around (e-mail telling her how much we miss her) and then forward it when it hits a certain number or something.
I have to say that as a 'newer' quilter that I can really relate to Mary more, closer in age/less experienced, etc. I would think that it would be just fine for Liz to retire after all the time and work she has put into F&P.

On a recent show they introduced their new sponsor as "Baby Lock"? I was amazed or maybe I was seeing things. Anyone else see that episode?

I have been wondering what happened to Liz too. Just recently our station that carried it is not going to anymore. They have another sewing show in its place.
I am a fan of their face book page and Marianne posted that Liz had been in town and they were glad to see her. Marianne said that it looked like her (Liz) was playing lots of golf and enjoying her retirement. I believe it said she was in Texas... I do not care for Mary the daughter on the show, in fact I have pretty much stopped watching it because of her.

Fons and Porter Love of Quilting
I watch all the shows I can. YES, I do miss Liz, but I think that Mary is growing into the show. It's more basic than the other shows I used to watch with Liz and Marianne.
It is interesting that Bernina dropped support of the program just as Liz "retired." Babylock stepped in, and I do like that machine as well. I never thought that Liz and Marianne were totally comfortable with the new Bernina 830. They hardly used the built in dual feed foot which would be essential for perfect piecing. Marianne and Mary seem more comfortable with Babylock. They are also getting more support from Babylock educator Pam Mashee too. Another interesting note: Liz Porter has three video classes on quilting (quiltclassroom.com) and she's using a BERNINA! Very interesting. nuf |
OK the show is not on this morning on PBS has always been for a long time 8 a.m. EST. Did they remove from there?
It wasn't on last week either :( It has thrown a monkey wrench into my Sat morning routine!! LOL!!
I live in the DFW area and our PBS station does not even carry this show. They have Sewing with Nancy and another sewing show that isn't really quilt related at all and that gets replaced by various seminar series all the time. I get Eleanor Burns on RFD station.

I hope everyone gives Mary a chance. She seems a little nervous, and she has very big shoes to fill. I think they are trying to appeal to the younger crowd. Think about it, if we don't attract the younger quilter, there won't be anyone left except us old foggies. Eventually we won't be able to quilt anymore, and then where would the world be?

I think Mary is doing just fine. Give her a chance.
according to kaye Woodes, whose class i took recently, Liz has retired.
It was my understanding that Liz was stepping back from tv and appearances to sped more time with her family and grandchildren. I agree it is not the same but what is? I do think that Mary will bring younger quilters to the show.
My PBS had a show on yesterday -- but the previous 2 weeks they had a pledge drive with 2 hours of Sewing With Nancy. I don't mind Mary -- though I really enjoyed Liz. In yesterday's show they said something about Liz's daughter getting married, but they did announce on a show last year that Liz was retiring.
I feel the same way!!!

I saw that with this weekend broadcast too. Like you guys, I am wondering and really hate to see this show change. The daughter is just fine but the show has always been one of a more detailed program and she does not bring that to the cutting table. Everyone always welcomes beginning quilters but I hope this is just an extended vacation or something for Liz and this program change is limited to a few weeks.
If you continue to watch the shows with the daughter I believe that they mention she is spending more time with her family and working on designing quilts.
I too, miss Liz, but I am grateful that there are a few quilting shows on tv. There used to be a lot more. I can remember watching: Kaye Woods, Alex Anderson, Sharlene ???? and others that I can't remember right now. I like Mary on the show and she is funny and knows her craft.

I truly enjoy watching Mary and her mom interact so well. I miss Liz also, but onward and upward. We no longer have any quilting shows on our local PBS or create channel, so I have none to watch now, so I guess I will have to buy more DVDs.
she retired and moved closer to her kids.
All these comments are so interesting, it would be nice if someone could find out what REALLY happened.
