Just wondering...

Once upon a time, someone said that it was "a nice shade of yellow"... and more recently someone said that it was red.

What have you found to be the hardest color of batik to locate?

KatFish 03-31-2011 07:35 AM

I have a hard time finding a good shade of yellow and red too.

pollyjvan9 03-31-2011 07:37 AM

I am having trouble finding really light colors to use for strong contrast.

same here.

Light, pastel colors.

Light, pastel colors.

wanderingcreek 03-31-2011 07:41 AM

I agree that light pastel colors are very hard to find. Reds and yellows would be next hardest to find as well.

julia58 03-31-2011 07:51 AM

I have nooooo problem finding every color in the rainbow, my LQS specializes in batiks. Wonderful to have close to me.

amma 03-31-2011 07:57 AM

Light colors in general, mediums and darks are very easy to find just about everywhere :D:D:D

Tilladare 03-31-2011 08:05 AM

Pastels and a black that isn't "just black" . Like something with good mottling/marbling

ghostrider 03-31-2011 08:06 AM

I have no trouble finding all colors...brights, lights, pure, muted, blends, whatever. I have several local shops, Keepsake Quilting included, and between them all, there is an unlimited selection of colors.

I never have to buy batiks online and really appreciate being able to see and feel them in person before I purchase. Spending my money locally makes it all that much better. ;)

thequilterslink 03-31-2011 08:07 AM

I had trouble finding a nice beige batik or a nice pale green. Blues, purples and greens are everywhere.

Mickey1 03-31-2011 08:10 AM

Creams and light taupes are the hardest for me.

Candace 03-31-2011 08:19 AM

Gray or silver, with no other coloration! It's been a nightmare finding a decent print with no brown, purple or blue veining....I'm not giving up though!

VaNella 03-31-2011 08:21 AM

I can't find creams.

katier825 03-31-2011 08:24 AM

I'd like to see more pastel neutrals. Some of the ones I see look "dirty" or grayish to me.

Mariposa 03-31-2011 08:27 AM

Lighter colors are harder to find. Pinks also.

Spydee 03-31-2011 08:45 AM

Truthfully -- the color I am currently looking for.

For me the hardest batiks to find are true blacks that are not solid.

I also agree, that reds, yellows, and grays are up there on my list.

The trend I see in stores are that they either stock batiks that are primarily very bright or heavily lean toward the darker nature tones. So shops that cry other color ranges grab my attention.

DogHouseMom 03-31-2011 08:57 AM

MY LQS has an excellent selection of Batik - that said, I see very little in grey, or black.

whinnytoo 03-31-2011 09:40 AM

I wish they made a white or close to white batik, impossible to find anything close

the casual quilter 03-31-2011 11:13 AM

Lights, definitely.

Karen Combs has some totally awesome pink batiks (just pink, not mixed) coming out through Print Concepts.

Lori S 03-31-2011 12:52 PM

If I think about the ratio of what my LQS stocks 80 percent or higher would be dark . or med/dark. So that means I am always on the search for light and med/light in other than the 1895 type.

Rumbols 03-31-2011 12:53 PM

Lights for good contrast are always hard for me to find.

Yes, my issue also. Lights without dark patterns on them are really hard to find. Some pattern is fine, but I don't like it when it's high contrast dark.

ann clare 03-31-2011 01:25 PM

I find it hard to get a nice red batik.

imatopper 03-31-2011 04:19 PM

Grey. A light grey that doesn't look dirty. Second is lights, any neutral lights that don't look dirty. Sometimes the light colors look like they were washed last in the dirty leftover waters.

KayT 04-01-2011 03:24 AM

I have trouble finding just the right red. Whether it is batik or other.

I agree. Lights, pastels. I hunted for a month to find a light yellow. The ones I saw were either too bright or too gold.

Angellight 04-01-2011 03:36 AM

I'm like Ghostrider. I have 4 local shops that carry beautiful batiks. If I can't find something at one, I can usually find it at another.
That being said I'd still like to thank the berson who posted a Superbowl sale on here and "helped" me purchase 12 yards of batiks online. Fabric Depot and I could become VERY GOOD friends...

Happy Quilting,
Susan

While walking through Hobby Lobby one day past the head scarves, I found every color I would want so I bought them. Cheaper than yard goods too. I used them for a Hawaiian quilt and cut them up when I need a batik.

Reds!!

SWChick 04-01-2011 04:06 AM

Reds and blacks. If I can't find a pastel by the yard I buy the baktic ombre which gives me all the shades of a color.

I agree that lights are quite hard to find, the most I find are in my daughter's stash and she doesn't have many, LOL. Red is what I find next hardest to find, true bright red, not rusty, or maroony. How's that for a word?
