What Have You Made by McKenna Ryan?

I have fallen in love with her designs. I was just wondering if anyone here had made one. I am really hopeful that some of you will say yes, and show me a picture.

When I retired and started quilting, my first project was OutNAbout.

I have Home Sweet Home waiting.

April 2013 American Patchwork & Quilting had a nice article about McKenna Ryan as well as the pattern for a cute wallhanging titled "Feather Your Nest." I am collecting my fabrics to try it.

Diane007 04-09-2013 05:54 PM

nice wall hanging

Grandma Peg 04-09-2013 05:59 PM

Made one for my husband with animals and he feels it is the best quilt I ever made, isn't that sweet?

Phyllis, that is gorgeous!! You did a beautiful job.

CK, I love the baby quilt! The colors you chose are perfect for a little one.

My first quilt

This was my first quilt and by McKenna Ryan. I really enjoyed making it even though they are a lot of work. I blanket stitched all the edges as I wanted it to be functional as well. I ordered her Bell Garden when I finished it.(barley started it as there are so many other quilts to try as a beginner). I say go for it and get those creative juices going!!!

Boston1954 04-10-2013 06:44 AM

Oh, Petpainter, that is gorgeous! My sister's daughter-in-law loves owls. If she ever saw that, she'd be trying to spirit it away from you. lol

Thank you for posting your quilt! I purchased the patterns & started collecting fabrics (should have bought a kit). The one thing I found confusing about this pattern is how pieces of one block carry over into the next block.... ps....love your dog!

grammysharon 04-10-2013 08:26 AM

I have made a couple of her older larger wildlife wall hangings, one of a bear and one of elk in the wild!!

red-warrior 04-10-2013 09:34 AM

Beautiful quilts ladies.....thanks so much for sharing! I can't believe these were first quilts....you must have a gene!

sylvia77 04-10-2013 06:25 PM

I've made quite a few of her patterns as I love nature quilts. I just posted a picture couple of weeks ago of one I just finished called Spring is in the Air, a variation but I too, machined blanket stitched mine down so it will last.

Sassylass 04-11-2013 03:05 AM

First petlpainter I must say I LOVE you Harlequin!!! Your quilt is beautiful too! I have been looking at Mckenna Ryan patterns but that is as far as it has gotten.

lizzy 04-11-2013 03:12 AM

Love your quilt. You did a great job.

Teacup 04-11-2013 05:03 AM

I love her patterns but I am not good with free motion and have been afraid to try them. Some of the pieces are so intricate...I didn't know you could blanket stitch. I'm pretty comfortable with satin stitch applique...has anyone tried that with her patterns? Another down side might be trying to match the many colors of thread for satin stitching to the fabrics. When you do the raw edge applique with free motion, do you change thread colors, or do the patterns recommend transparent/monofilment thread?

littlebitoheaven 04-11-2013 05:45 AM

I made "At Home In The Woods" and love it. I have it hanging at the landing of our stairway (out of direct sunlight). It was a good experience for me as I had to free motion quilt each piece before the LA quilter would quilt it.

If I do another one, I will free motion the pieces of each block first and then sew them together.

mkay 04-11-2013 06:04 AM

I love her quilts so far have three of them and just ordered the fourth one love your picture .

Oh please......would you show us a picture? I want to see all these wonderful items. I am thinking seriously of getting the kit for "This Otter Be Fun". It looks so cute.

cpcarolyn 04-11-2013 06:26 AM

Never made one yet but will have to try one now.

Sneed 04-11-2013 06:33 AM

I did the one she had a couple of years ago with all of the chicks and roosters. It's in my posts if you want to see because I doubt that we can post the same one twice. Her patterns are so pretty and lots of fun as they're kind of a change of pace.

DonnaC 04-11-2013 11:36 AM

Wow, petpainter, that is one HUGE doggie LOL! He (or she) is very beautiful though. And so is your quilt!

Gabrielle's Mimi 04-11-2013 12:38 PM

You're quilt is gorgeous, but I LOVE your dog!!!

Those are cool

I've made one - can't remember the name - if you follow the directions one line at a time you will be able to do it. One of the quilt shops here did classes - she would serve us dinner and we worked on drawing out all the patterns and fusing them. It was so much fun. McKenna Ryan has an eye for color - in my mind her quilts come out best when using the colors she uses. Many quilt shops carry the same batiks if you want to go on a fabric hunt.

tlpa 04-11-2013 05:08 PM

All of them are beautiful. I've never really looked at this designer, but will have to take a second look!

I am trying to get caught up on posts. I was ironically teaching no sew McKenna Ryan wall hangings at the museum! I have made a lot of her patterns and prefer to enlarge them and make bed quilts. I satin stitch the whole thing so it is washable.

applique 04-15-2013 04:38 AM

I am slowly working on KaBloom and the garden basket. So much to do and so little time! Back to playing. Once I get caught up I will post some more stuff!

michelleoc 04-15-2013 06:22 AM

Actually, I gave my DH a wish list - "If you are ever in need of something to get me, I'd love the pattern Wind in the Whiskers and Heaven and Nature Sing". I love her patterns! Beautiful quilts by everyone, by the way.

Boston1954, Here are a few photos of my At Home In The Woods quilt.

Another fact that I learned in doing this quilt was when the blocks have been sewn together, you have to be very careful how you press the seams. I used a bit of padding so that the seams did not ruin the look of the pieces that floated from one block to the other. Also, I changed color of thread for each piece. Time consuming but worth it.

I also did some fabric painting on the flowers in the border. I painted the centers. This is not a quilt that I will wash often as it is a wall hanging.

I really love this quilt. I bought it as a BOM. Yolanda

littlebitofheaven, that is simple gorgeous! I appreciate you showing that close up. The stitching takes my breath away. I wish the tax money would hurry up so I could put in an order.

All the quilts are wonderful and thanks so much for showing them. Hope someone else has something to show....

I love seeing you all's work!!! I just finished the Bella Garden top, and am thinking through my batting and machine quilting decisions. What batting have you all used? I am considering fusible fleece but have reservations. Sorry about the picture quality. This is in my basement.

littlebitoheaven 06-16-2013 07:44 PM

I used Heirloom 80/20. My quilt seems to hang well. There may be others with more information for you. Good luck!

Boston1954 06-17-2013 04:59 AM

I use Warm and Natural for all of my quilts. Never had an issue. Thanks so much for all of the pictures. I lvoe them.
