I had long legs and no hips back then and the unblessed thing was always going south but how else to keep your nylons up? I wonder if 'trolley garters' was a reference to the trolley cars? They got their power from a rolling device that hung from the electric lines overhead. Well, maybe, because the trolley garters got their power hanging from the girdle. :D :D :D |
Those plastic sewing boxes are treasures too, you did great!!
Quite a find. Looks like quite a few wooden spools in there too. Trolley supporters?  I've seen em (even used em) but never heard them called that. Funny.  Have fun with your finds.

Wooden spools-that's the real bargain! Pm me if you are interested in selling them.
How about getting a shadowbox frame and making a collage with those antique notions? Would be fantastic on the sewingroom wall.
Had a good chuckle over the girdle clips, I remember those, ugrhhhhhh. Have fun with all your goodies!

I got all the stuff in one box so now I have an empty one to fill up!
If any of you ladies need to "refresh your girdle", I've got the trolley supporters you need. :-) |
Hee, hee, hee--great find!
Make sure you keep all of the wooden spools. Can't get them anymore and they are real cute to decorate with.
Every time I read about Goodwill on here it makes me want to go and I go there at least once a month! Our local Goodwill stores have one color tag a week that is a dollar and the last Friday and Saturday of the month everything that is donated is 50% off. I am almost addicted to this. Plus they have a workshop on the premises on the main Goodwill to help those who have certain challenges in their lives. They also have a frequent shopper program that for every $10 you spend they will stamp your card and when you get 10 stamps you get $5 off your next purchase.
Cool trolley supporters!! Haven't seen those since Mom wore a girdle back in the sixties. I've never heard garters called that before. Funny!! Enjoy your new stuff.
Aren't those great finds fun? I love them; but I have also returned to the goodwill the things I can not use when it comes in boxes of miscellaneous - unless it is beyond using; then it is pitched... but they might as well make a few more cents on what I can not use... they never charge much for these kinds of finds...
Found two boxes very similar to these (although at seperate yard sales) for $5 each. They are always stocked with a treasury of vintage sewing items. The bonus is that my husband always finds a little something or two in there for himself...the odd screwdriver, fishing lure, matchbox car, etc.......
great find

Those trolley supporters would make a great white elephant gift!
Great find at Goodwill!!
Love your avatar!! How long did it take to look this good? |

Too funny..I'm thinking those went out the door with the garter belts (ugh, I hated those) and the likes of those instruments of torture.
What I love are the sewing boxes! I have been looking for ones like that. Can't even find them on eBay. These days, if you buy a sewing "box" it's usually a basket covered in fabric, with no inserts, or inserts too small to use for what I'd like to use them for.
Those old plastic boxes have a space for scissors, thread, bobbins, etc. I had one that was kind of like that, hubby put it in our moving sale and my neighbor bought it for $5.00 including the pinking shears, crochet hooks, etc. I tried to tell her it wasn't supposed to be out there, she just laughed and said thanks for the great deal! lol! |
SCORE! But I'll have to pass on the girdle clips, thank you! LOL
Add more elastic and use to keep fitted sheet corners on bed--if they aren't dry-rotted.
Thanks fot the laugh, but I can't refresh my girdle-- it's looonnnnngggggg been gone.:)!!
Great find...don't ya love the goodwill. :)
Looks like you got a lot of great stuff, but the best would be the girdle clips. Talk about a blast from the past. I haven't seen those is ages. Guess that makes me old huh? I guess I'll have to check out Goodwill the next chance I get. Great find.
i think you could use these to make fitted sheets from flat ones, , sew the seamed end on one side and stretch it over to catch the other side end. does that make sense,?
Another great buy. Maybe I am going on the wrong day of the week.
Hated that girdle - and I only weighed 110 pounds!
Great buy!
My girdle is way past the refreshing stage! LOL
I laughed when I saw those girdle things. Save them-they are antiques. too funny
Oh, yeah! I need my girdle refreshed for sure! LOL
Trolley fasteners is a new one to me although I remember wearing them!!!! If you got wooden spools, a vender at a Quilt Show recently charged $0.25 @ for small ones & $0.50 @ for larger ones!!! That was either with or without thread!!!!! You really got a haul!!!!
I don't think so. Thank you.
OMG!!!! My MIL always used those!!!!
Oldies but goodies. Have fun with your haul.

Yeah - the girdle clips. I remember being all of 14 - in Catholic school and the lovely uniforms- skinny as a rail. If we didn't have a girdle on the boys would know when they tried to "snap" us. Can you even imagine this? Still completely blows me away. We even discussed the torture at our 40th reunion last year. So..... the clips made me smile. Bet that elastic is still stretching like the day it was born - right?
Hahaha!!!
You knows that I use these "news clips" to adjust the sheets? And they look old! Great! A hug! |
