Warm and Natural here....

Soft and bright

I wouldn't use a poly since it's summer weight (doesn't breathe) so I'd go with a bleached Hobbs 80/20

I use Warm & White~

How about .... White Flannelette?
It is light in weight, and without little bulk. Though does give a little warmth. You won't get much loft, but it does have a nice drape and feel to it. Whether hand or machine quilted, it quilts up quite nice. I had a 100" square quilt hand quilted using flannelette, several years ago by some local Amish ladies. They had never heard of doing such, but by the time it was completed they told me that they would be doing some for themselves! After all these years, and a number of washings, it hardly looks used. I made sure that I pre-shrunk the flannel several times before it was used. Loved it then ... and am still in love with it! ...... I also use flannelette in runners when I don't want a lot of bulk. |
I finally decided to order Quilter's Dream cotton request in white from Amazon. This quilt really needs a bleached white batting, as the "natural" color bleeds through the thin white background fabric. Mountain Mist was the only bleached white batting I had on hand and I might have used it, but it will shrink and this time I don't want the crinkled look.
Has anyone preshrunk QD cotton request? I'm thinking it might be able to tolerate soaking, spin out in washer, and dryer heat because it is needlepunched. (I know the Mountain Mist would fall apart if I tried this with it.) I know it's supposed to shrink a max of only 3%, but I'd like even less shrinkage than that. And I know at some point in its life it will get tossed into a washing machine with hot water and will be dried on high heat. quiltingshortimer, I have used Hobbs 80/20 but always in the natural color. I don't think it comes in a bleached white? |
I haven't preshrunk batting but wanted to suggest that you might call their customer service phone line for suggestions. I called them once with a question about the wool batting and was pleasantly surprised to have an answer right away by a real person! You can just go to their website for the number.
