After many years of testing and experimentation, I find through the lips to be the best method for me. I have less laundry to do that way. ;)

Yah, me too!! Funny! I often tell my DH when it is just a really bad day and I am still thinking about losing job, daughter's situation, mother's cancer, loss of husband's extra spending money job, loss of good friends through work, that I just don't think I drink enough. Half glass of wine, small margarita every month or so is all I imbibe in. But then I wouldn't get to feel the pain so it is not a good solution for me. Think I will just keep trudging along each day and sew to relieve the stress. And sit on this board a little too much! Guess I would say I am a sloooowww far-behind drinker.

A little bottle of Bailey's Irish Cream is a great night cap.

ROFLOL - hilarious!

valsma 10-03-2011 07:05 PM

Some days I wish I drank more than I do, which isn't much. I still have 5 bottles of Mikes Hard Lemonaid I bought in August.

Guess it is a good thing I choose not to drink much. Some of the family of my moms generation had drinking issues and i've chosen not to take the chance.

mrsponcho1 10-03-2011 07:09 PM

I just finished my nightly Coors Light.

I have 2 sons. My oldest son has a form of autism. He is high-functioning but had a LOT of behavioral challenges when he was younger. My husband traveled quite often for work, so I was not able to get many breaks from the kids. One particularly challenging evening, I called a girlfriend who was in a similar situation and asked her to talk to me until I could calm down, because I was ready to kill one or both of my kids. She asked me if I had any wine in the house. I laughed, I thought she was joking, but she was serious. She told me to drink a glass of wine and she'd talk to me for a few minutes. It worked! It took the edge off and helped me relax a bit. Ever since then, I made sure to keep some sort of alcohol in the house. Fortunately, my son has grown, matured, and learned, and alcohol has become less of a necessity and more of a pleasure to partake.

I never worried about being an alcoholic - there were many, many times I did not want a drink, and had to force myself to have at least a half-glass of wine. It's not good to be under so much stress for so long.

I LOVE to have a cordial like Sambuca in the evening. If the day has been crappy, I put my big girl panties on and grab a Johnnie Walker scotch. Somehow, the troubles melt away!! Lol

janedee 10-03-2011 08:28 PM

Tea - any form of alcohol these days makes my joints ache so I don't bother

COYOTEMAGIC 10-03-2011 08:52 PM

On the rocks.

Just be careful you don't get the Dr.Pepper bubbles up your nose

Does coffee count ?? And yes I do try to drink it thru my lips, but sometimes it ends up on my shirt

MissJMac 10-04-2011 12:54 AM

At 70+ years, I'm on a boatload of medications for a boatload of age-related conditions, therefore, I drink no alcohol(Besides, all my medication bottles clearly state "Don't drink alcohol or operate heavy machinery")LOL
I live on the 8th floor of a loft apartment in the heart of the city - wonder what heavy machinery I should avoid. They couldn't possibly mean my wheelchair, could they???
Now if we rewind about 50 years, I was in the military, stationed in Washington, DC and I was a typical party animal and bourbon was my drink of choice Ahhhh.... those were the days.

Nana Julie 10-04-2011 02:47 AM

Prefer Hot Tea, especially Prince of Wales, Lady Grey (regular and decaf), Sugar cookie and Amoretta if I can locate it.

But as others have mentioned over the lips is a good prospect. But then I have lost a few dribbles.

Plumtree 10-04-2011 03:48 AM

Back in my yonger days I was quite the party girl but after having kids I did a complete turn around and didnt' drink hardly anything till the youngest was about 2 then the nightly vodka and cranberry came out for sanity purpose. At the time I had 4 kids under the age of 7, I was out of my mind and needed something to calm me down.

My Grams always called it Happy Hour at home, because mom got happy with in the hour, and if mama is happy the house is happy.

mama lyn 10-04-2011 03:50 AM

I am a constant drinker!:-) Coffee til noon, diet coke with lunch, ice tea until dinner and hot herbal tea in the evening. A margarita a few times a year and savor every drop of it when on the road!

Dolphyngyrl 10-04-2011 04:11 AM

lelia 10-04-2011 04:12 AM

I like a gin and tonic but don't always have tonic water here so I've been mixing gin with ginger ale and I love it. I used to be a beer drinker and one day said to my hubby...do not buy me any more beer. I WILL order a draft beer when we go out but no more at home.

I'm not a wine lover but I will drink a small glass of white wine and it has to be dry.

I've heard about some of the flavored vodkas but haven't tried them...yet.

My grandmother told her doctor that she couldn't get to sleep at night and he finally told her to drink a small glass of wine about an hour before she went to bed. She tried it...it worked. She lived to age 94...died in 1987. She was not a drinker at all...told me about the time they went somewhere with friends and both ladies got a mixed drink. Both of them got dizzy since they weren't used to drinking...this was in 1938...I think.

nannya54 10-04-2011 04:47 AM

I'm with MissJMac...... medications say no but I miss it so. Now it's water and tea but oh to have a CC sour again or white zen. Sometimes it's not fun growing old.

My 'house wine' is Williamsburg Winery's "Governor's White". Has anyone else had it? I have to stock up when we go on vacation, or find a friend in VA, because I can't seem to find it here in PA.

QuilterGary 10-04-2011 05:18 AM

Some days I wish I was still drinking. But then I think of what I use to drink and with the prices now I could not afford to drink like i did when I was younger. Had my half.

For me, it's coffee in the morning, then water or maybe a pepsi later. If I am out and don't have to drive I might get a beer or two. On the rare occasion I am in a bar with a bartender who can make a decent margarita, I will have a couple of those (I live in a very very rural area).

lillybeck 10-04-2011 05:34 AM

A sober one!

patchsamkim 10-04-2011 05:35 AM

Most of the time coffee is my beverage of choice...and water...maybe once or twice a month will have a beer...in the summer maybe a margarita...at Christmas time always have a Tom and Jerry (my brother in law makes a great one!). Occasionally will try something else, but always decide I would rather have a good beer.

Coffee when I get up, a ZipFizz when I get to work, then fizzy water the rest of the day. I know pretty boring.
