What is a thick face plate? I've never heard of one.

Sometimes when sewing over multi layers of fabric the needle will hit the hole in the face plate. The thick faceplate has a bigger needle hole and the plate is sturdier . All single stitch machines should come with this but of course you have to purchase it separately

I think you are talking about a needle plate, as a face plate is on the end opposite the handwheel. Faceplate images link.

Yes the official name is needle plate or throat plate. Most can figure it out.

P and J, my crinoline order has arrived, according to my email. Here is the backside and front of my class project, almost finished. I want to make an embellished quilt, although I never have! Still in planning stages, but want to use previous appliqued quilt as a guide.

Wow, aashley333, that is going to be beautiful! Love the jewel tones you are using.

Interesting! I've only ever heard of a single hole plate, to be used with straight stitch only, which helps prevent fabric from being sucked down into the bobbin area.

I'll keep this in mind in the future. My Bernina 153 is over 20 years old; I know it's a matter of time before the motherboard goes, so have started thinking about what I'd like. Juki is one brand I am interested in.

I have finally figured out what to do for my granddaughter and I ordered the fabric. Many years ago I found a pattern on line called the Hummingbird. And Accuquilt came out with a die for it - called the Mill & Stars. When I saw the Tula Pink fabric with the birds and all different colors for the birds, it just said this is it! So I am rushing to finish the Exploding Heart quilt so I can make my new quilt. Hopefully I will be able to get it done by Christmas.

I have to say a big Thank you to Watson, I think.😃 Under the thread about bag making supplies, she posted about Emmalines, I've just received my second order from them, and have more items in my cart for a third order. I am on a tote making binge, and their EB fuse is amazing. I'm using their heavy version and it stiffens the canvas perfectly. I have also bought some of the waxed canvas (which sews like a dream)and their natural waterproof canvas. I have been so happy with everything I have received from them. I just keep coming up with new tote ideas and just have to make it.😉😉

an Omnigrid pressing and cutting portfolio [?]

folds in half. one side for pressing, the other has a cutting mat.
my old one got warped because i didn't store it properly. it still works for pressing but can't rely on it for accurate cuts.

I just bought some fabric from Connecting Threads to finish a project this morning.

I just got back from a family trip to Brown County Indiana. Hit The Yellow Door quilt shop and picked up some Kaffe fabric for a border and some batik for backing for a quilt I plan to make with a Kaffe fat quarter bundle. Too many projects, not enough time.
