Paper Princess has the right idea, but too many seams for my liking. To elongate the middle also, I'd do it this way, and as others have said, the alternate block has to be the mirror image:

I'm posting this again because the previous pic is a little blurry. The ends of the horizontal strips can just be snowballed to achieve the effect of the quilt

I'm with you Nan. Less seams is always better...and just think of all those wonderful little HST's you get when you snowball the corners. Those are great in a border or as an accent in the backing.

I would make it this way also...less seams

Unique, pretty quilt! Love the way it looks "curved" without the curved seam. Thank you for making the diagram for us.
