What is the name of this block?

Can anyone help me with the name of this block?
Pretty but I do not recognize it. Simple to do with strips and squares that are "snowballed" on the strip ends.

Don't know the name, but it's a 9 patch layout. Interesting with the elongated format.
You are so clever! This looks easy-peasy but I was trying to make it hard, I guess. Thank you for this layout.
I know many blocks off the top of my head, but not this one. Really pretty layout, though, and simple to make. Thanks for sharing it!
It's an impressive layout that creates an unique secondary design.
Just two blocks ... the one that PaperPrincess created and the mirror image of it. A perfect scrappy quilt that goes way beyond the scrappy look. Outstanding quilting that amps its impressiveness up another notch (or six!!) :) |
I like this design! Thanks for showing it.
Amazing how such a simple block can look so interesting. I like this layout.
This is such a beautiful quilt -- looks really hard but is so simple! Elegant!
I like this too--and sure does look simple enough
No name here just wanted to say its pretty

Paper Princess has the right idea, but too many seams for my liking. To elongate the middle also, I'd do it this way, and as others have said, the alternate block has to be the mirror image:

I'm posting this again because the previous pic is a little blurry. The ends of the horizontal strips can just be snowballed to achieve the effect of the quilt |

thanks btiny, PP, and Barb. Sure wish I knew the correct name of it, though, so I can name it right in my EQ
boy yes, easy to do with hst's and great design when put together!
Unique, pretty quilt! Love the way it looks "curved" without the curved seam. Thank you for making the diagram for us.

Thanks to all who worked it out. It's a really lovely block.
I have to keep this in mind. I love the result.
I don't know the name of the quilt but the quilt is beautiful and the quilting enhances the block. Can't wait to read futher down to see what the name is. Pretty colors.

Can you give the measurement of the finished 9 patch block?
Oh no, another project in the queue!
Gives me an idea for another scrappy. Thank you.

Trends and traditions has similar patterns. Check this website and you may find it

The pattern will work, no matter what size of 9P you choose! |
What an intriguing block! Thank you to everyone who contributed in how to make it!

Here's my block I made today with the elongated strips and snowballed ends.
Libster ... Niiiiiiiiiiiiice .... and tmro, will we it's twin sister? :)
Such an interesting pattern with a totally different layout. Ideas abound.
What a lovely block -- the elongated block makes it easy. That will be a lovely block.
This is what makes the QB so great. All these helping hands. I really like this block. Will be fun to see what the name is but for now...another on my bucket list! Thanks everyone!

Found the pattern: Mirror, Mirror by A Quilter's Dream.

that is very close KatieMar, but it has a couple of extra rows. Thanks for the info, though |
I think you are right KatieMar!
Great Sherlock Holmes'ing!!!! :) I don't think there are any extra rows, as QuiltnNan suggests. Only that the alternate blocks are done in reverse colour/fabric placement. Whereas Quilterdale's photo has every block (group of four smaller blocks) the same and when they come together, that incredible secondary pattern shows up. Does anyone agree with me? |
Thank-you Nan for the visual for making the elongated block.
I have a question and perhaps someone could help figure this for me, if you wanted the block to finish at 8". What would I make each rectangle and then what would the snowball's be? I'm so pattern dependent what comes easily for other's is most challenging to me. |

I'm so pattern dependent what comes easily for other's is most challenging to me. Not that you cannot do it ... ... but for me, I would go for something that is easier for me when measuring/cutting. Anything divisible 3 would work .... some size examples For each of the 1/4 sections as per the graphics given earlier, If the strips were cut at 1-1/2" and finish at one inch, then each of their lengths would be cut at 3-1/2" (3" finish) Your 1/4 section would finish at 3" square and four together would mean a 6" square. Starting with 2" strips finish at 1-1/2" ... length would be 5" and finish at 4-1/2" 1/4 section block would finish at 4-1/2" square and the group of four finish at 9" square. 2-1/2" strips finish at 2" ...... length would be 6-1/2" finish at 6" 1/4 sections are 6" squares finished .... foursomes .... 12" squares finished At least I think I have the math correct on these .... ........ if not, I know someone will jump quickly and correct it all! |
