Then, I'd have a logo with a needle and thread.

There is a fabric store on ebay named From the heart . I've bought from them.

Koko, you might want to consider the Quilt Shop names already in your State of New York: this link is a directory organized by town. When you think up names for your new business, see if yours is unique. My suggestion would be Mountain Magic maybe combined with your name Koko's Mountain Magic crafts or use the name of your Street or town. Good luck to you, and do post more pictures of your location and your shop.

In my town we have two shops that are named after the women's grandmothers. One is Alma Jane's and the other is Marie Josephine's. They are very popular places and I think it is partially due to the names. Think of a relative's first and middle name and name it that. It makes it sound so classy and I think it draws people in. You don't even know what those two shops sell, but you want to check them out.

They are two of my favorite stores. The first one sells high quality used items only, like old sewing machines that are flawless ( that's where my husband picked up my 401 Slant-O-Matic this Christmas). The second store is a high class women's clothing store. She also sells some awesome bits of furniture. That's my two cents on the subject.

In some places, if your name is in the name of the business, the permits, etc., aren't as expensive. As in : Koko's Whatever versus just Whatever. Check and see if that will save you any $$. I did that a long time ago, so it may have changed.

I like Dina's suggestion of "Quilts and More"

DUH! Knew that didn't look right!!!!.......meant, "The Potpourri Pantry"...it would appear you first have to KNOW how to spell it to look up the spelling in the dictionary!!! :o

-- "The Best Little Quilting Store in (your state or county)"

-- "Let's Quilt!"

wait, is this store about selling what You make or also to help others quilt? I may have misunderstood. If it's selling your own work then what about:

-- "Koko's Quilted Creations" phew, talk about alliteration!

I named my business 'The Victorian Needle Worker' because mine includes sewing knitting crochete embroidery even tatting if they want it, any thing having to do with a needle. Mabye this will give you an idea.

How about Koko' Kwilted Treasurers -

Also while you are registering names, don't forget to check with your Secretary of State or Corporation Division to see if you need to register an "assumed business name." It is usually very cheap and can be done in 15 minutes.

I meant that to be "Koko's Kwilted Treasurers" or "Koko's Quilted Treasurers".

I called my antique business Miss Ada's. THe Miss with the given name in the South is common and I thought it sounded like an old maid school teacher. So, instead of disliking it, I used it and actually, it is a sign of respect and has no reference to one's marital status. On this thought, I love your name you use on QB, KoKo. Though you may now only sell soft goods, and maybe only your own creations, the future may hold expansions to things such as spa articles, candles or food. My vote goes for KoKo in some form.

You aren't talking about a fabric store, and you want to make sure folks don't think that is what it is. Still you couldn't do something vague like Dina's Creations...that could be anything. (My name is Dina.) I would think it would have to be something like Dina's Handmade Treasures....but then that is vague too. Maybe something like Quilts, Etc., Homemake Quilts and More, or Quilts and More ??

I look forward to reading the suggestions you get. Good luck with your business, whatever you decide to name it.

Dina

I agree, Dina. The name needs to clearly indicate what is being sold----------------but using a catching word arrangement.

Let me try this again!

I like "Creatively Your, KoKo" with another line below to indicate quilted gifts.

GrannieAnnie 01-08-2013 11:18 PM

Also, "Creatively Yours, Koko" would leave you open to bringing in other people's work and knickknacks you've found. The name could show YOU are offering the items-----------not necessarily that you made all of them.
