What name would you give this business??

If you were going to open your own quilting/sewing business that included selling such handmade items as quilts, X-mas stockings, pillowcases, tablerunners, bags etc. what catchy name would you give the business so people would remember it?

lynnie 01-04-2013 05:16 PM

Everything quilted,everlasting quilts,homespun quilts,fun with fabrics

Dina 01-04-2013 05:20 PM

Oh dear, this is a hard question. I would want something that made the type of store clear and still clever. You aren't talking about a fabric store, and you want to make sure folks don't think that is what it is. Still you couldn't do something vague like Dina's Creations...that could be anything. (My name is Dina.) I would think it would have to be something like Dina's Handmade Treasures....but then that is vague too. Maybe something like Quilts, Etc., Homemake Quilts and More, or Quilts and More ??

I look forward to reading the suggestions you get. Good luck with your business, whatever you decide to name it.

Dina

I would keep in mind that the name has to be something that is easily remembered, spelled, and easy to look up as far as the address or phone number goes.

"quilt maid" comes to mind, and i don't know where it came from!

ghostrider 01-04-2013 09:48 PM

I definitely wouldn't (and didn't) tell anyone until after I registered the business name, the Etsy name, the domain name and the blog name at a minimum, maybe more to cover the social media side of things.

And don't do a domain name search for availability of your chosen name(s) until you are ready to register it. Searches are a matter of record and names can be grabbed up by people who will then turn around and try to sell it to you at a higher price than you would have otherwise paid.

"I definitely wouldn't (and didn't) tell anyone until after I registered the business name, the Etsy name, the domain name and the blog name at a minimum, maybe more to cover the social media side of things."

Ghostrider is right on this one. Once you pick your name you want to be able to use your name to secure your space on the net. You will want to registar the name with Etsy, FaceBook and possible Twitter more if you can think of it. For myself I only do Etsy, FB and my own site but all with the same name. Good Luck with whatever name you come up with. When you get your Etsy store make sure to come and share it so we can favoite you :-)

For a name I like Quilted by Design, Quilted, Just Quilted, I liked KoKo's Kuilting, KoKo Kreations

That is about all I can come up with--sorry my oldest daughter named mine.

I wish you the best of luck on your new adventure Oh how about that one KoKo's Quilting Adventure :-)

Since it's all items that are stitched, how about "In Stitches"

Over the Rainbow Quilting.

Sunnye 01-05-2013 06:10 AM

I had that question also. I make quilts (baby on up), wall hangings, art quilts, hooded baby towels, etc. I just used "By Sunnye"

NOELLA 01-05-2013 06:22 AM

I would name it "QUILTS @MORE" Good luck naming.

Dunster, you have my suggestion. I guess great minds work alike!!! I'm glad I read the other suggestions, because Koko Kwilts popped into my mind. So that is 2 votes for that name. Good luck with your new business.

How about Koko's Mountain Magic. You do a myriad of projects and for anyone that is pure magic in and of itself and you are located in the Adirondacks and they are mountains, hence - Koko's Mountain Magic. After a while, customers will just say "Hey, let's go to Mountain Magic"!!!!!!! AND THERE YOU ARE!!!! Edie

I think I would call it "The Quilted Lady" and have a silhouette of a woman sitting in her chair and quilting for my logo, if it isn't protected that is. I made lots of quilted bags last year, as well as other quilted items, and while I initially thought I would call myself "The Bag Lady", my family and friends talked me out of that name, so I went with "The Quilted Lady", which they agreed would be OK. It seems to be working for me right now, so I shall remain "The Quilteld Lady". LOL

noveltyjunkie 01-06-2013 06:06 AM

Lots of good ideas there. I just wanted to agree with the point that you need to be clear it is not a fabric shop. I'm surely not the only person who has travelled to what I thought was a crafting supplies store, to discover that it only sold crafted items. Conversely, if I am looking to buy a crafted item, I am more likely to search for a 'gift' shop (even if it for myself).
Catchy names with puns are usually not that informative. I would save that for a motto or slogan, and lead with a simple statement of what you do. Along the lines of 'Sewn Gifts by Koko' with a subtitle in the window/website with a pun or image to catch attention such as the ones already mentioned here.

Quilts and sew much more....but that is a bit wordy

Wonnie 01-06-2013 06:58 AM

You could go with a take-off of the current "layer cakes, jelly rolls, turnovers and honey buns" and call it
THE POUPURRI PANTRY...unique quilted and sewn gifts.

Ellageo 01-06-2013 06:59 AM

Koko's Sewing Room........

patchsamkim 01-06-2013 07:04 AM

Years ago I had a business like that...I called it Kim's Kaboodles...a "mispelling" of caboodles...but I liked it with the k's matching...you could do the same...koko's kaboodles...someday, who knows I still may reinstate the business...sold lots of different things...framed sewn pictures, teddy bears, signs with sewn letters (names by special order), book covers, fabric wallets, totebags were my biggest sellers.

The members on this board are so thoughtful and helpful and the ideas shared have really been great. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions - I'm still pondering a name but am sure I have some great ones to choose from or even combine.
