ummmm??? did the OP not say she already had the fabrics purchased? and ask us for suggestions that would work for that fabric?

Oh my gosh, the 4 n 4 patch is Awesome. That one would work as well. I am sure your son loves his quilt, it truly is awesome! Thanks for sharing.

The main thing to remember, I found, was my choice of fabrics, not too many floral!

This is a great quilt - I love the pattern and the fabrics were perfect - I might have to copy this one.

I like alternating blocks of Shoo Fly (or Hole in the Barn Door, another name for it) with Snowball block. The corners make nice paths through the quilts and the snowball blocks give you a spot for focus fabric. Good luck.
