Thanks Patti P for giving us the picture and thanks to eparys and jan in va for working out the pattern. It really is a striking quilt and would be a great way to use up fabric pieces.

It's Dutchman's puzzle but I know there are many different names for this block. To be sure go to Quilter's Cache where you can find it. Also if you use the Eleanor Burns' method for flying geese it would make it easier and the secondary block is mainly HST's. Hope this helps. It's a pretty quilt.

Obviously, it is a row of half pinwheels with whole pinwheels at the intersections, but I have not seen a name for it. Very nice pattern.

Another reason to love this board! This is a lovely quilt, and now we all have the math worked out. All we have to do is pick our colors, cut and sew! Thanks to Patti P for posting the question and to eparys and Jan in VA for solving the math!

I am so impressed with you ladies that can so easily do the math on these quilts, just from a picture! I wish you were here at my house to help me figure out how to cut for a 3D pinwheel quilt! God bless your mathematical minds!

Dutchmans puzzle is the name of the block. Look at it closely. If you break it down into quarters, it is basically comprised of 4 units of flying geese blocks(2 geese in each block). The top left set fly north, the top right fly east, the bottom right fly south and the bottom left fly west. It is very easy to make if you break it up into those smaller units.
Hope this helps!
