A friend is trying to figure out the name of this quilt pattern. I've never seen it before but I was hoping one of you might recognize it. Thanks.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-11-2011 09:47 AM

Hi from another Sue :)
It looks like a combination to me. Sorry I'm no help!
Really pretty!

sahm4605 07-11-2011 09:48 AM

can you get a larger pic of it or a closer pic?

This is the picture she sent to me so I don't think I can make it bigger. It does look like a combination of several, though. I think it's really pretty.

Looks like the checkerboard blocks are 6 x 6 probably 1" finished squares. Not sure what pattern is used for the pieced star sashing. It's really pretty!

I see 3 main blocks in it (no idea on the names)
One is a 16 patch
Hope this helps a little :)

QuiltnNan 07-11-2011 10:49 AM

the way i see it is the patches is 6x6 with the red in each corner. then the sashing is elongated diamonds.

That's the first time I have done that. I saved the pic to a file and then chose the file as an attachment.

It's very pretty, but I can't find it in any of my EQ libraries - even Block Base.

It looks like there are three blocks, all the same size. You could reproduce it in any size you want.

I see it as one block. I have no idea what it's called.

I found something similar in BlockBase called "Chain of Diamonds" by Aunt Martha

I would definitely prefer to piece the first version - the one with a 16-patch in the center. All these y-seams give me the hives just looking at them! :D

Two different layouts of this block in the same quilt top

That is so cool! I love what you all are doing with your designs- haven't a clue how you do it :D

abc123retired 07-11-2011 11:27 AM

I have some 16 patch blocks made needing attention. I might use this to work them up. Thanks so much for posting this.

dakotamaid 07-11-2011 11:36 AM

You gals and your EQs make it so simple for the rest of us. So cool! And so many ways of looking at the same thing.:)

teacherbailey 07-11-2011 11:49 AM

Great Job, all you computer whizzes! What a beautiful way to work with 16 patch blocks.

thepolyparrot 07-11-2011 12:10 PM

Quilter's Cache has a partially paper-pieced pattern for the Aunt Martha version - she calls it Diamond Chain.

http://www.quilterscache.com/D/DiamondChainBlock.html

Even with paper piecing, I think I would prefer the first version, as shown in the original vintage quilt. I sure do admire the original quiltmaker, no matter which method she used. It's really beautiful!

Feel free. I would make it as an 8-inch block, each small square being 1 inch. Or you could make them 1.5" each, resulting in a 12-inch block.

jaciqltznok 07-11-2011 06:27 PM

gotta LOVE EQ..hehehe

I think someone made this up themselves...even looked in the Brackman book and nothing shows up in this combo!

QUICK somebody buy the copyright to it..hehehe

I prefer the first version too...looks really great and a wonderful way to use up scraps OR if you are in the 1.5" stamp swap...hehehe

I saved the picture. opened it in kodak easyshare software, made it black and white, resaved, opened in paint and enlarged 250% then used red lines to draw the squares :) I don't have any quilting software so I just take the scenic route!

Ann912 07-11-2011 09:21 PM

Thanks ladies!

Jammin' Jane 07-11-2011 09:29 PM

That's amazing!
Thanks!

theresa.redington 07-12-2011 03:23 AM

This is so neat!

theresa.redington 07-12-2011 03:24 AM

Amazing! This works too!

theresa.redington 07-12-2011 03:26 AM

I myself was clueless, but after reading this blog, "It is so true as to how amazing the ladies/gents are on this QB!"

redmadder 07-12-2011 03:29 AM

Ya'll are amazing. And now that you've put it in the public domain, no one can copyright it. True quilter values include sharing. Thank you.

I love it.

The extent of my graphic design is limited to graph paper.
Awesome what some of y'all can do! star619

sahm4605 07-12-2011 04:35 AM

I can see that there are two ideas there as well as a 16 patch. It looks like maybe one of rondas blocks and a peaky and spiky with the 16 patch. that is at at least how I see maybe doing them.

charlie 1940 07-12-2011 04:40 AM

I would say a 36 patch with all four corners the color of the sashing which is the star of this pattern. The star points and a pinwhell cornersquare make up the sashing.

If you copy your small picture, put it in your word program it will enlarge, then you can attach it.

wish i knew, sorry, but it is a gorgeous quilt!11

ladydi64 07-12-2011 04:58 AM

I have a book with 500 full size patterns in it, but I could not find your pattern in it. I found the center of one called lillies of the field that's the one with the white diamonds on the red background. It looks like a combination of 3 patters put together.

Debra Mc 07-12-2011 05:50 AM

It makes me drunk but real pretty. I hate points. They drive me crazy.

Emma S 07-12-2011 06:04 AM

Oh no, yet another pattern I just love. Thank you for the inspiration.

dltaylor 07-12-2011 06:05 AM

Its pretty

I agree. That looks like the easier method of piecing. Bet this one is hand pieced anyway.
