miss_ticky2 not to change the subject but I just noticed your fur baby and almost cried. When I was a teenager I had a cat that was identical to yours. Her name was Krypton and she was loved. used to be a superman fan yrs. ago.

Those blocks are beautiful. I like 2 inch sashing but 1 inch is OK. Whatever looks best to you. Post a pic of the quilt when you are done. I can't wait to see it.

thanks cjomomma...this is Ticky, one of our 3. She is loved, despite being the most demanding, obnoxious human-come-kitty we've ever had...lol. But we would miss her if she wasn't here :)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments and advice. Yes, I think I will play with different sizes and see what I like. I guess I kind of thought there would be a 'standard'...lol.

wow, love your blocks, when you get more blocks done maybe you can figure out what size for sashing

I am fairly new at quilting to and I always thought that it was a proportion thing, you know dividing into thirds etc but I soon realized that there are no rules or formulas that are considered standard, it is all down to personal interpretation, some large blocks have skinny sashing some smaller blocks have wider sashing, as has been already said, auditioning is the best way, you never know something unexpected could jump out and say, 'pick me'.

On my current quilt for my DH he said he wanted yellow sashing, I thought yuck, I auditioned it among others and guess what, it looks great, so what do I know? Lol

It is true sometimes what you decide will surprise you :D

i would suggest taking and laying the blocks out and trying out different sizes on the blocks to see which works and looks right. I think that you are probably going to end up going with about 2"'s or so. Just for balance of the quilt. but that is just me. I can't wait to see it finished.

Beautiful, Beautiful blocks! I agree with raptureready about choosing a sashing a little bit darker to make the blocks pop. I'd go 2 inches.

Thanks everyone. Hmmm...now I don't know what to do. I was going to go cream because I wanted a soft light look but now I'm wondering if I should look at something a little darker. I hadn't considered that. I already have all the cream fabric for it though. Ah..decisions...
