Opened up, I have no idea wat it is, but all folded up, it reminds me of a paper fortune teller made out of fabric.

I'm not sure but I have seen coasters where the base of the wine glass slips into the openings of the squares and then the glass, when it is being used, always has a coaster.

I sure does look like a cathedral window base!! Interesting choice for fabric...wonder if the center was going to be a solid?

Looks a lot like the base square for cathedral window block, although I would not have used a print fabric. Maybe that's why it was in the trash.

Yup!!!! I agree with this.

Machined cathedral window. OR.... a hat for a borrower or elf or pixie or fairy

It's a wine glass coaster. The base of the glass fits into the coaster so that it doesn't leave rings on the furniture.

I think it's a part of a cathedral window quilt. It looks like a piece of the background that you would use to sew the square into.

I believe it's a coaster.

Looks like a thread catcher to me as well. Just needs buttons on the flaps.

Perhaps that is why it was in with the scraps. They started making it and forgot how to finish it. The thread catcher is usually a triangle, but I did see one recently that was a square.

I thought coaster, also, but they are usually made with three different fabrics, not one.
