What are these gorgeous blocks?!?

What are the names of the gorgeous blocks used in this quilt? Alice PD posted on the board in August asking about the blocks. I saw her post and just love the blocks and quilt. Have not had any luck in locating them. Can you help me find them?

I don't know the name of the blocks but know, the quilting in the square blocks with border. It is Queen Charlotte. I designed it for The Stencil company.

Dee Dee 01-11-2014 10:45 AM

Well, you did a great job with the design, it is beautiful. And, looks perfect in the quilt.

Oh they are absolutely gorgeous and the quilting superb! I really would love t be able to do that quilting. Need to save for a long arm and practice, practice, practice.....I am still trying to master quilting on my DM.

Pennyhal 01-11-2014 11:14 AM

Gorgeous quilt! I can see why marking it was a tedious chore. I am astounded at how straight your lines are.

Dee Dee 01-11-2014 11:32 AM

I wish it was mine! :) Alas, someone else pieced and quilted it - the link is to the quilter's site. I would like to make something similar and am looking for the pattern for the two blocks.

Wow Holice! Your quilting design is absolutely stunning! Congrats on it being accepted!!

Dee Dee, I looked thru the blog you posted. The blocks are her own design. Maybe you can email her and asked if she's published the pattern or will share with you.

dakotamaid 01-11-2014 02:14 PM

Grab some graph paper and draw the block out. But checking with her first would be polite. :)

Sandra in Minnesota 01-11-2014 02:54 PM

All I can say is, "WOW". It leaves me breathless!

charsuewilson 01-11-2014 05:37 PM

The blocks look like an adaptation of the carpenter's wheel. (but with a snowball instead of a star on the inside). I ended up with a similar block to frame an applique on one of my quilts. The quilting is gorgeous on this one.

Nammie to 7 01-11-2014 05:38 PM

It is beautiful and the quilting is stunning. Holice, your quilting design is certainly used well in this quilt. It certainly shows it off!

caroloto 01-11-2014 05:44 PM

here is a link to the pattern she teaches in workshops.

I see it as an Ohio Star block that has been enhanced and set on point. It is the fabrics that make each block look so different.
The second picture in the link clearly shows the Ohio Star in the darkest block on the left. It stands out as being set on point, I have seen this block before, maybe in a book of star designs.

Maggiemay 01-12-2014 07:33 AM

I agree, the quilting design is beautiful. The blocks remind me of the Royalty Block Variation from McCall's quilting. They are similar, but the centers are different.

mjhaess 01-12-2014 07:56 AM

That is one beautiful quilt....

jclinganrey 01-12-2014 08:23 AM

Found it!!! Of course, the choice of fabrics, as others have mentioned, makes the difference but here's the block:

http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patte....html?idx=8339

The only difference I see is she used 4 patch units in the corners. Otherwise, it's the same. McCall's quilting is a great resource.

EasyPeezy 01-12-2014 11:33 AM

Actually this looks like the Sunrise Star from McCalls...with some variation.

donna13350 01-12-2014 12:17 PM

The maker of this quilt calls it "Cherry Chocolate"

Dee Dee 01-12-2014 02:26 PM

I tried contacting her a few months ago, but did not get a response. If I lived near her, I'd attend her workshop. :)

It might of gone into her spam box, might try emailing her again with the title Cherry Chocolate Pattern. or put a comment in one of her more recent bogg post. http://www.addictedtoquilts.blogspot.com/

gramma nancy 01-12-2014 05:50 PM

I can't name the blocks, though clearly several people here can. The quilting in this quilt is spectacular. I wish I had that kind of talent ... and patience.

granky 01-13-2014 04:24 AM

Aren't they what is known as the 'Swoon' block? I've always wondered where they got their name, too.....

Lady Diana 01-13-2014 04:29 AM

Holice, which quilt on her page? I don't see it. I see some gorgeous quilting. Are you referring to the feathers and lines in the small squares? if so, Very nice!..
Well, Duh ,lf I looked at the pictures on the side of the webpage, I would have seen the Queen Anne design....Very pretty!

Darcene 01-13-2014 09:10 AM

Holice,
I am concerned to see "banned" in your status...your quilting design is so lovely.

Darcene

RuthiesRetreat3 01-13-2014 11:42 AM

According to her blog site (4th thumbnail on the right), she designed this pattern originally for her Rose Square quilt. She may have a pattern for sale, if you join and contact her blog.

My time 01-13-2014 04:45 PM

The top I could accomplish, but that beautiful quilting........never. Beautiful job

Dee Dee 01-13-2014 05:16 PM

Thanks Quilters for directing me to the Sunrise Star! I think I can modify it enough to work. The other block with the inside box/block and four patch on the corners - do you recognize that one?

Barb in Louisiana 01-13-2014 08:19 PM

I sent an email to Addicted to Quilts and asked if there was a pattern available for Cherry Chocolate. Delsey responded that one was not available at the present time. We'll just have to figure it out ourselves.

Obviously it doesn't mean the same as on some forums as she can still post.

Dee Dee 01-14-2014 03:44 AM

Thank you Barb. I'm glad you got a response, and now we know. Do you know the name of the second block with the box outline and four patch in the corners?

Hi, Dee Dee! I too fell in love with "Chocolate Cherry"! I e-mailed Delsey (sp?) and asked if there was a pattern available for sale. She responded "No there is no pattern available. Kindest regards." Bummer! But to me is looks like a variation on "feathered star" without all the feathers.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L_5O4AH4BM...0/DSC02286.JPG
I was all geared up to modify until I saw in the directions that the Feathered Star requires set-in seams & I ain't that good yet! LOL!!!

THANK YOU so much Jane!!! You don't know how this has been driving me crazy! LOL!!! Now to find fabric!

Dee Dee 01-14-2014 04:53 PM

I agree. The Sunset Star pattern looks more simple. I've not read the directions. Hope it doesn't have set in seams!

Maggie, you are so right! The basic block is like the Royalty Block Variation from McCalls. The Center is treated like the Sunrise Star Block. So put the two of them together and that's the block!

YAY!!! It doesn't & seems fairly simple (I've only been piecing for a little over a year) but I understood all the pieces. The biggest challenge I think will be finding just the right fabric to do it justice! She substituted a 4-patch in the corners & looks like she lost a lot of her outer patches when when she squared up? This kinda scares me 'cos I'm a lousy squarer-upper! LOL!

Thank you! I thought I was right too & couldn't understand why no one was agreeing with me- ha ha! It definately looks like a cross between the two blocks!

Dee Dee 01-15-2014 04:53 PM

I feel your pain!:) I've been quilting for awhile and am still a lousy squarer-upper. If you or anyone comes across the other block in the quilt, please let me know. I haven't found that one either.

I have been studying the picture & I think I have the second one figured out. I'll let you know after I try a practice block!
