They're 'shoe stretchers' - put the pointed end into the shoe, the ball end into the heel. Keeps the shoe in good shape - or so I was told by my Mom. Don't know where the name came from, because they don't stretch the shoes.

What about darning tools?

Yes, that is a Martha Washington sewing cabinet, and they are shoe stretchers. I guess I am old as I still use them. Anne

Shoe trees. I have some I got in Germany years ago that look almost like that.

Yes, it's a Washington Cabinet. I'm looking at mine right now. It was my mother's and looks exactly like that one. She put her sewing stuff in it. I had no idea it was worth so much money. Glad I kept it.

Those are shoe trees. They keep your shoes in it's proper shape. Back in the day, shoes were more pointed at the toe. I do not think they had the structure built into them as they now do.

They look like shoe streachers or stabilizers that people would use to streach their shoes that were too small or to keep shoes in shape after they got wet (they would sometimes shrink after being wet).
