My sister and I were just at my dad's this past weekend. My mom has been gone for about 2 1/2 years and this weekend, he finally gave us her "good" jewelry. However, my mom always wore jewelry and had a ton of costume stuff. In addition to the drawer full, the wall necklace hanger, she had one of these cabinets full of costume jewelry. We started digging and looking, but it was too overwhelming.

These are called shoe trees..... used in the shoes to store so the leather was kept in shape....

Those are shoe stretchers. We use to use them all the time when we were kids and we go out in the snow without our snowboots on (I hated those boots, just like rain boots).
|
Shoe stretchers, also keep the wet shoes from deforming
|
looks like shoe stretchers to me ??!!! I have some wooden ones ..thats what i was told !!!!
|
These are "shoe trees" you stick the larger end into the toes of the shoes and the smaller end into the heel. This keeps your shoes in a shape.

Yup, shoe stretchers.

Look like shoe stretchers to me.

Love the cabinet!!!!! I agree with all the others these are shoe stretchers. My grandma had a few of these and also some that resembled these that were used for her snow/rain galoches. (spelling terrible today.)
|
Dont u put them in shoes to keep their shape!!!The cabint will be beautiful once u clean it up. :?
|
Looks like antique shoe stretchers, or trees to help the pointy toe slippers keep their shape.
|
I have a cabinet like that my father gave her for Christmas they were married. It is very sentimental to my. I love it.

they are shoe horns..or stretchers. Used to keep the shoes in shape.
Haven't seen them in years........ |
They are for your shoes. They help hold the right fit of the shoe. Sometimes they are called shoe trees or stretchers.
|
I may be wrong, but judging from the small size of the heads, I believe these are darning "eggs" like you would use for darning socks, but designed for gloves! I remember my dad using something like these to repair worn fingertips in knitted gloves.
That's why there are two different sizes on the ends. |
those are old fashioned shoe stretchers. Jean
|
yea! going with the majority, something to do with shoes

I have a sewing chest like this one. I refinished it. It is a great compliment next to my pre-civil war (1850's) bed. Both inherited from relatives.

THE ITEMS YOU HAVE ARE "SHOE STRETCHERS"!
THEY GO INSIDE YOUR SHOE TO KEEP IT'S SHAPE. MY GRANDMOTHER ALWAYS KEPT THEM IN HER SHOES!!! |
I don't know what they were doing in the sewing cabinet, but those are shoe trees! Probably have some just like them stuck in a pair of dress shoes someplace!!
|
They are shoe trees. You put them into your shoes when you have taken them off, to keep them in shape.
Lynette |
These also keep the shape of your shoes like new. Mymother had these in every pair of her good shoes. I wish I still had hers.
|
Being sewing related I would say they were used for darning socks etc. I got hubby to come and have a look. His opinion is that they were the wieghts used in weaving on a loom.

shoe stretchers

Those are shoe horns, sometimes called shoe trees. Put the big end in the toe of the shoe and the little end at the heel and it keeps the shoes in a nice shape. Shoes are much more casual now so really not no necessary. This dates me!

That sewing cabinet looks like a Martha Washington sewing cabinet
|
old style shoe stretchers?
