I am not sure on the shoe extenders, but your Martha Washington sewing/tool box is quite valuable. Research, and refinish with expertise help. Friend who has an antique store, sells them for over $450. in good condition, and I saw one for $700 sold at a quilt show. Lucky you. Enjoy

Shoe stretchers or for darning socks
|
I would say they are shoe trees,
sometimes used to stretch new shoes. Enjoy. |
They maybe shoe strechers :-D
|
I agree my first thought was shoe stretchers.
|
They are shoe trees for ladies shoes. Shoe lasts are expandable that are in the shape of the foot, that they shape the shoe over when they make shoes. google it.
|
They look like something one puts on shoes.

They're 'shoe stretchers' - put the pointed end into the shoe, the ball end into the heel. Keeps the shoe in good shape - or so I was told by my Mom. Don't know where the name came from, because they don't stretch the shoes.
|
What about darning tools?
|
Yes, that is a Martha Washington sewing cabinet, and they are shoe stretchers. I guess I am old as I still use them. Anne

Shoe trees. I have some I got in Germany years ago that look almost like that.

Yes, it's a Washington Cabinet. I'm looking at mine right now. It was my mother's and looks exactly like that one. She put her sewing stuff in it. I had no idea it was worth so much money. Glad I kept it.

How do you put your raptureready name and quote in the bottom of your threads like that?..Just curious!I am trying to learn and figure out all the options in this forum..Thanks!

Those are shoe trees. They keep your shoes in it's proper shape. Back in the day, shoes were more pointed at the toe. I do not think they had the structure built into them as they now do.

They look like shoe streachers or stabilizers that people would use to streach their shoes that were too small or to keep shoes in shape after they got wet (they would sometimes shrink after being wet).

Polkas, waltzes and etc even at Lawrence Welk when he came to St. Paul, Mn.Oh what fond memories.Anita

I have an identical sewing cabinet I inherited from my MIL. Mine is in beautiful condition. I use it in a small powder room. I opened the second drawer and put some of the old-fashioned linen hand towels with lace and embroidered edges just handing out of the drawer and I get many compliments. I use the deep side containers for storing additional toilet tissue and hand soap. I hope yours cleans us well so you can enjoy yours too.
