It can be any color, tone on tone more or less give a colors the look of texture.

That's an adorable pattern. Snow Fairy Frost fabric would make a fabulous background for that. http://www.fabricdepot.com/index.php...=fairy%20frost

I love tone on tone fabric. It's so pretty in an understated sort of way.

Our sewing group did this last year and it came out beautifully. We did modify and used only some of the "stars". We thought it made the finished quilt too busy with all of them. We did the embroidery in DMC 832 blue and blue and white fabrics for the back, border and stars. It came out great and was donated for a raffle the women's club at our church held. Proceeds went to various charities. If I can find a pic of it, I will post it.
