I recently bought a Reliable brand iron. It is big & heavy and the steam is amazing...too amazing. You can go through a jug of distilled water in no time!

When my very expensive ($125) iron stopped working more than it did work after only a few months, I gave it to my dd then went to a drugstore and bought a Black & Decker for $9. It has no auto shutoff and works beautifully still after a year and a half.
Black & Decker makes good products I think. Or maybe it's just that cheapo irons work as well as expensive ones. ;-) |
I've had a cheap Black and Decker for years. If I remember it cost less than $10 from a discount store. Don't even remember which discount store it was. I do not use the steam part of the iron, instead I have a spray bottle with a fine mist (bought at dollar store) lightly spray what I want to press and it works just great.

I buy the real old ones that don't have the automatic shutoff. I find them at garage sales and don't pay hardly anything for them. I got fed up with buying new ones that didn't last any time at all.

I bought the cheapy one at Walmart and it has done a great job and no leaking!

Hey buy the cheap $10 or so from Walmart. It works fine. I've had mine for 5 years.

1)"Maytag cordless iron". (No longer made)Only use it to press fabric. (no longer bother to iron clothes-rotflol)Love it, doesn't leak. Had it for years.
2) Have two "tiny craft irons"-never been totally thrilled with them but great to take to classes. 3) Just got a "Hobbico Craft Iron" from a member of this board, and I LOVE IT!!!! Kat |
This is a great way to keep my iron that I love, and not have to put out a lot of money for another one. I am going to do this. Thank you so much for sharing.

Another idea is just don't put water in your iron. If you need a little steam lightly mist the area with a bottle of water. That way you don't have to get rid of the Rowenta, but you also don't have to deal with a leaky iron!

I'm on my 3rd Rowenta. The other two leaked and to have it repaired you had to mail in. It was cheaper to buy a new one. Bed,Bath and beyond had a coupon and I pd about 35.00 for the one I have now. No problems after 3 yrs.

I have an old, cheap Westinghouse iron that has been dropped, moved and at one time left for dead but it works and wouldn't trade it. This iron has no automatic turn off and I can't tell you how many times it has been left on overnite or longer. :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
