sidekick bobbin winder, purple thang or quill, good snips,a well organized pincusion, best quality needles i can find, Kimona silk thread [Superior],King Tut thread[Superior], and Aurifil. The June Tailor rulers are very useful but check for acuracy before you buy - they will make it right but who needs the hassle.
BTW a friend traveling thru St.Geo.toured Superior and told us all about it at a sew-in yesterday, She really had a great time and we all have an even greater appreciation for the prewound bobbin assortments [donuts] Thanks again

Cutter, mat, rulers, seam ripper, scissors, multiple pincushions, pins.:)

GrannieAnnie 09-08-2011 05:13 AM

Rotary cutter, mat, rulers, scissors, snips, SEAM RIPPER, extra pair of reading glasses to act as magnifiers, magnetic pin "cushion",

I discovered a new use for my magnetic pin holder. I dropped a needle while sitting in my recliner sewing a hem. The holder is a magnetic tool holder bowl that I got from Harbor Freight. What I generally do is stand up, shake out my dress and then search the floor for my needle. WELL, that very strong magnet sucked up the needle from where ever it landed and saved me 15 minutes of searching the floor.

Also vital for hand sewing---------------fabric softener sheets!

scrappy2 09-08-2011 05:15 AM

I like my magnetic extension "picker-upper to reach behind my sewing cabinet & my flat sergical seam ripper.

irquilter 09-08-2011 05:15 AM

See through 1/4" foot by little foot, lots of nice marks on it. Scarlet Today hand sewing needles and also the clover seam ripper I wear them out and misplace them I use mine a lot! I also find the add a quarter ruler invaluable when paper piecing.

canuckninepatch 09-08-2011 05:16 AM

the Gipsy handle for my acrylic ruler.....a wooden skewer as a stylus.......a brush for cleaning lint out of my bobbin case......a Clover necklace style round cutter (looks like a necklace, but has little cutting blades around the circumference of the "pendant".......the hanging thread catcher and pin cushion that I bought at a craft show......these are some of the things I rely on. C9P

canuckninepatch 09-08-2011 05:18 AM

I know something else......my swiffer to pick up all the threads/fuzz etc. on the hardwood floor in my sewing room when I'm done!!!!!!! c9P

quilter41 09-08-2011 05:19 AM

Of course my cutter & mat, but always my stiletto. I use it all the time. It even helps with ripping.

Helena 09-08-2011 05:19 AM

What about quilting stencils and the quilter's pounce.

Johanna

I just slip the second pair (same strength) on over my normal reading glasses when doing close up work. (family laughs at me, but who cares, I can see what I'm doing!)

How, pray tell, do you use fabric softener sheets when hand sewing???

I'd have to agree about the Clover needle threader...Best invention ever. Also have just purchased Clover's needle nest. I can thread up to 10 needles and store them all, thread included, inside this nest. Just a turn of the wheel brings all thread ends into the "nest" with no dangling threads left to tangle. Each needle is easily removed. Sure beats sticking threaded needles all over the arm of my chair.

gollytwo 09-08-2011 05:36 AM

two rulers that I use all the time
- Creative Grids 2 1/2" x 6 1/2"
- Simplicity Studio Simpli-EZ Jelly Roll Ruler

Bottom Line pre-wound bobbins, and
titanium needles

Val in IN 09-08-2011 05:38 AM

All of the above plus my June Taylor Shape Cut Ruler that I use to cut strips. Can't live without it.

annthreecats 09-08-2011 05:53 AM

I took the cheap plastic off one of the wrist pin cushions and added some elastic, it's more comfortable and I put it on every time I use the machine.

My 6" sewing gauge to measure.

I'm re-purposing my double pointed knitting needles to use as stilletos so I don't sew my fingers on the small pieces.

Can't live without my seam ripper.

i know some people use these when they do applique but please be careful because some people are allergic to them and the fact that they have gone thru washing machine cycles does not remove the powerful chemicals

Great question! I'm going to go with something I haven't seen anyone else mention. Last year before Christmas, I found some small (not quite gallon size I don't think) trash cans with flip lids on them at the Dollar Tree. I bought all they had! I gave them as Christmas gifts to everyone in my quilting group, to all my family members who sew, and of course I kept one for myself. It's amazing how many fabric snippets and threads it holds! It sits on my sewing table right by my sewing machine, so I don't have to try to keep things in a little pile and hope they don't get scattered. LOVE IT! :c)

2 seam rippers...I always misplace one when I need it most. A pair of cheap scissors for cutting the threads between chain piecing. Omnigrid cutting mat and rotary cutter. New blade for rotary cutter (if needed I have it and I don't have to stop cutting). Coats and Clark Nugray thread. 12 x 1.5 inch omnigrid ruler. Quarter inch ruler. 12 inch square ruler. Long ruler (22x6?)for strips. 2.5 inch omnigrid ruler for 1.5 inch squares, etc...Pencil and notebook for notes, pieces cut, etc... Plastic bag or bins for cut pieces and block storage. Hand needles for any hand sewing needs.

Debbie B 09-08-2011 06:39 AM

Rotary cutter with the cutting mat & rulers. Love my June Taylor Shape Cutter, but wish I had gotten the larger size. I like my Accuquilt Go, too, but have not gotten to use it much as I only have 2 dies so far. The one it came with and the tumbler die.

What kinds of things do you have on your peg board? You've got me curious! LOL!

Seam ripper, seam ripper, seam ripper. Either I'm a perfectionist or a klutz. Or worse, both.

kathydacey 09-08-2011 06:54 AM

I'm confused as well about the blue painters tape on the rulers.

LOL i thiink you meant glasses, not classes. We will agree with you. hehehe

joysewer 09-08-2011 07:27 AM

I love the Kwik Klip. It helps you close pins when pin basting. I would never be without it again!

arizonagirl 09-08-2011 07:29 AM

I love my 15 inch by 15 inch rotating cutting mat. It comes in handy when I need to make several cuts around a template. I also have a large press board that goes on top of a small folding table. It's nice to use the rotating cutting mat on top of it and still have room for pressing also. I also love my GO cutter. My other favorites are my thread catcher/pincushion and my purple thang.

I have a pair of very small operating room scissors that I can't live without...the blades are extremely fine and they are VERY useful for all kinds of "snipping"...

Mae6660 09-08-2011 08:17 AM

Rotary Cutter & Mat, straight pins, rulers, sissors, seam ripper. The normal stuff, nothing extra ordinary.

I like my "bendy" light too (best money I ever spent). My machine light died, the bendy light is even better and brighter.

Rotary cutter, mat, seam ripper, purple thang, rullers, pencils, blue painters tape, gingers, snipps, post it notes, singer 301, bernina 640, computer, iphone/ipod( got to have music). I think that all of these are the most important.

BettyGee 09-08-2011 04:38 PM

rotary cutter, seam ripper, cutting mats, quilter's pins, scrissors, rulers, and did I say seam ripper?

Treegal 09-08-2011 04:54 PM
