I use an office chair that has arms that flip up out of the way when I don't want them there. I tried a few different things over the years - stools, saddle-style stools, balance ball...and I always come back to a standard office chair. I really like the one I have now, I think I bought it from Staples.

My machine sits flush in the table and the table is adjustable, so I have it set to a height where I can sit comfortably with my feet flat on the ground and my machine bed at elbow height. This makes it all pretty comfortable for me.

I have laminate flooring in my sewing room, so I bought a low-nap rubber-backed rug to use as my chair mat - like what you might see in the entrance to a store. It protects the floor, keeps me from rolling TOO freely (but I can still roll if I want to) and the little bit of carpeting helps catch dropped pins rather than having them bounce into invisibility like they did when I had bare flooring under my table.

I bought a round stool like those in the Dr. office exam rooms. Love it. I use to take the backs off simple office chairs to use as stools and that works. I don't like chairs with backs or arms to use for sewing.

I am looking for one too after the stool I was using collapsed while I was sitting on it. Yikes!

Anyway, I think I want one without wheels because I have laminate flooring and a sitdown quilting machine. My current office chair rolls too easily when I am moving the quilt around under the needle. And is also a tad too low for ergonomics.

I found this one made by Reliable but I worry that it may still be a bit short.

I also use a stool - it has a rounded bottom, so works a little bit like a stability ball. Makes it very easy to turn, bend over and pick stuff up. I never lean back either, so a chair with arms or a back just gets in my way. The stool is also light enough that I just pick it up and move it over to my serger when I need to.

I have my grandmother's lyre-back sewing chair. Seat raises for storage underneath. No wheels but terribly comfortable for sewing. As well as all the sentiment.

Wow...so many options! My dining room is my sewing room, so dining table chair works for me.

Looks like mine in black. I went out shopping for "bum comfort" and came up with this one. :)
