Does DH realize how many of us are getting a huge laugh at his expense? Yet somehow we're also thinking how nice he is to try to help. My father did all the maintenance on my mother's sewing machine, but that was a long time ago.

PensyDutch 02-10-2011 06:58 AM

I showed this message to my husband and being the sound logical mind that he thinks he is asked, "Well, if it runs in reverse, why shouldn't this woman turn the mahine around and sew?" "After, all, he has it running..."
I am thinking of asking him if a mechanic fixed his car to only run in reverse, would he drive backwards to his destination? DUH!!!! (And to think I married this man for his brain)

ROFLMBO (Rolling on the Floor Laughing My Butt Off). Scarcoa, I am sorry but that was not at all what I expected you to say. Gotta give him credit for trying.

Pensy Dutch - Your husband is too funny and so are you.

What a great subject to make me smile. Actually the responses to the subject. I am still laughing.

Is it by any chance an older Viking? I had one that had set for a number of years and when I got it out to use. It only sewed in reverse. There is a Vintage Viking (prior to 1980) yahoo group that has information files on how to work on the older Vikings. I was advised by a repairman that mine was unrepairable and I should scrap it. Six months later I found this group and promptly bought another Viking off of ebay because I now know it can be cleaned and repaired.

My DH helped me fix my printer one time and it cost me almost one hundred dollars at the shop to fix it. He does not touch my sewing machind.

redkimba 02-10-2011 08:05 AM

I'm impressed that he was able to fix it, but how did he fix it so that it runs in reverse??

I just leave the fixing/tune-up to the local shop.

supergma 02-10-2011 08:07 AM

My DH wouldn't be allowed to go near my machines. He never remembers how things came apart. I once had to finish a brake job on his pickup because he couldn't figure it out. He's a love tho, and will do anything else I need him to do, so he's a keeper.

alissa 02-10-2011 08:12 AM

you gotta love them. I would not let my DH touch my machines, he wouldn't anyway ..

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 02-10-2011 09:01 AM

You gotta love em is right. I laughed so hard at this and when I told my husband he said, oh tell her to turn the machine around.

Wunder-Mar 02-10-2011 09:05 AM

So your machine is now running backwards ....

Does this mean your machine will tackle that backlog of projects?!?!?

scisyb220 02-10-2011 09:44 AM

Gives new meaning to "reverse sewing"!! His heart was in the right place, but his hands didn't coordinate. :-)

penski 02-10-2011 09:56 AM

lol poor guy he was only trying to help ( sounds like something mine would do )i guess you could just sew everything backwards !!!!!!

polly13 02-10-2011 10:16 AM

I'm afraid mine wouldn't even run in reverse if he tried to fix it. It would be one way to get a new machine though. You earned the award for the Chuckle of the Day, but don't imagine you see the humor in the situation.

mimee4 02-10-2011 11:25 AM

What a wonderful husband. He tried, which is more than some. However, the backward thing would begin to get tiring. LOL

scaroca 02-10-2011 12:17 PM

I give him credit for trying. It is a Janome and I paid good money for this machine. He gets one more crack at it and then it is off to the repair shop. I did tell him I put it on the internet. He just laughed and said somehow I knew you would. He is a great sport.

anniemae 02-10-2011 01:28 PM

My husband can work on and fix a lot of things in and around the house, but my sewing and embroidery machines, he does not try to fix. In fact, the only time he touches them is to help me move them or load them up to go to a class. Hope your husband figures out what he did wrong and fixes it. AnnieMae

Tweety2911 02-10-2011 02:44 PM

His heart was in the right place and sure he will figure it out if he is anything like my DH. Never lets a problem go unsolved.

sharoney 02-10-2011 02:44 PM

Ruh-Roh!

I am sorry but I think that is pretty funny. I bet since he was talented enough to fix it he will correct his mistake. I admire anyone that can do what he did.

vwquilting 02-10-2011 03:23 PM

Maybe he is dislecsic and it works for him. LOL

klgreene 02-10-2011 03:42 PM

Oh thanks, I wasn't having a good day, but I did laugh out loud. Gotta love him.

Tell him we are in his corner, we know he can do it and we will be watching! :)

jitkaau 02-10-2011 04:32 PM

Sit on the other side of the machine!!!LOL

Stitchit 123 02-10-2011 05:57 PM

not sure what kind of machine you have but see if the zig-zag stitch length is in the right spot this happened to me and all it was is Iforgot to reset the dial back to strait stitches I only lost 2 hrs of sew time but it was so wierd to sew with.Thank God for big brothers he figured it out for me.

p38flygirl 02-10-2011 06:00 PM

too funny....

KSue 02-10-2011 06:21 PM

I'm sorry to laugh at this, but it IS funny. Bless him.

pab58 02-10-2011 06:37 PM

How in the world.........??? :? :?

JeanDal 02-10-2011 06:53 PM

He was trying to keep his wife happy?

brickley 02-10-2011 07:04 PM

To funny.

Patricia Ann 02-10-2011 07:20 PM

where did you get your picture of the mouse and sewing machine i collect mice and I would love to have a picture like that I even have a mouse pad with three mice setting on spools of thread

madamekelly 02-10-2011 08:20 PM

You now have a left handed machine!

rob529 02-10-2011 09:53 PM

Really? or are you teasing us? That is so funny. It's like the home plumber that flushes the toliet and the shower comes on. You wouldn't think it would be possible to do that. He has definitely earned a lot brownie points trying for you though.

Yes, all you have to do is sit behind the machine.

rob529 02-10-2011 10:01 PM

Is there a belt somewhere that he put on backwards?

Susan[/quote]

Can you actually put a belt on backwards?

This really made me giggle this morning. Thanks. Perhaps after you take the machine in to be re-fixed you can let your DH know what he did wrong so he can really "FIX" it next time.

Scotlass 02-11-2011 09:39 AM

This was a really funny thread and peoples response was even better. He probably already has it figured out, but my DH (the electrician) says he probably just has two wires crossed and if he changes their position back it should solve the problem.

Let us know what happens!

scaroca 02-11-2011 10:30 AM

He hasn't even been back to look at it yet. But it is costing him because everyday I can't sew I can shop. Got some great cat in the hat fabric today. Yesterday some new clothes. Hummm what will tomorrow bring?????

Rettie V. Grama 02-11-2011 12:36 PM

Guess You will need to sew backwards. Guess you will have to sew from the backside of your machine.
