what would you do....

My sister just brought home 6 fabrics all browns, different prints and shades(that blend nicely) and wanted me to find a quilt pattern for any or all fabrics. My question is what would you do with up to 6 fabrics all in browns? All I can see is a q9p for 3 of these fabrics.

I have to laugh, because someone posted earlier today that she couldn't understand why anyone would make a brown quilt. I LOVE brown, and have seen many beautiful brown quilts. You can make any quilt design in browns, if you have the right amount of contrast. Google brown quilts and look at the images - lots of variety. You might also check out neutral quilts.

Yellow brick road would be lovely. . . Scroll down to YBR pattern. http://quiltbug.com/patterns/atkinson-designs.htm

I made this pattern once so I might have it in my pattern box. If you are interested, I will send it to you.

The first thing I think of is a Log Cabin--probably because my Mom had one in browns on her wall for years. Most any pattern will work with most any fabric--find one you love and want to make. :)

Dunster seems to always have the correct answer. I would probably add some shades of ecru to the mix. It is always good to have lights, mediums and darks in a quilt. Good luck

I really don't dislike them, though they aren't my favorite. I just adore vivid colors and wouldn't CHOOSE to make one

Since the fabrics are of many different shades and blend nicely, my first thought is to expand her selection and make a bargello or French braid quilt. Both require "color runs" of more than 6 fabrics, but she's provided a wonderful base.

What I love about both bargello and French braid patterns is that the color runs "go somewhere." They don't just muddle among themselves, however harmonious that might be.

Good luck! And please let us all know the outcome!!!

have fun, I read the same thread that dunster read about brown quilts, made one about 40 yrs ago, came out nice, you could add pinks, br and pink are in now

I love browns also, but I do not know if I would want to put all six and nothing else into one quilt. As someone ahead of me said, some nice ecru or even cream would break it up a bit.

Will you be sewing it or will she? If she is a beginner, a D9P is a good starter pattern or perhaps Warm Wishes.
