Here is what I am doing fabric wise - monster trucks and a blender light color for front, on back space ships

Trucks and trains are the first things that come to mind. Dads approve--not too girly!!

Little boys like cars, trucks, fireman, animals, primary colors. I think little children like prints alot.

As an educator, mom and Mimi- a 9 patch is a great I spy or match the blocks quilt. Believe me something that will grow with baby to toddler will be much appreciated by the parents and loved by child. Many juvenile themed fabrics have many different things that can be fussy cut. Definitely include letters & numbers, colors, animals- wild, farm, adult & baby, etc possibilities are many!
