I have a batik roll (3.5 yds) of 2 1/2" strips. Any ideas what pattern I should use to make a quilt?

QuiltedComforts 09-30-2010 05:25 PM

I have almost the exact same roll! I was planning on doing the super fast jelly roll quilt I found in the tutorial section, but I'm sure others will have more interesting ideas, lol!

DLM3 09-30-2010 05:27 PM

I have the same one also. Great question and I can't wait to hear what everybody suggests.

luv-e 09-30-2010 05:28 PM

Colors are stunning!!! How about a solid middle square and your strips around it???

deedum 09-30-2010 05:28 PM

That's what I am thinking! Got the jelly roll just waiting to be made!

Tallulah 09-30-2010 05:31 PM

I just bought the Jelly Roll Quilts book. Haven't picked my pattern yet. Have a batik jelly roll waiting for me to pick.

On the Missouri Quilt Company site under tutorials, look for Summer in the Park. I just made it with strips and I love how it turned out. www.missouriquiltco.com

cjomomma 09-30-2010 05:34 PM

The super fast jelly roll is what I was thinking. I have made 2 of them and I love how they come out. 1 of mine is in batik's that I am turning into a king size quilt for my queen size bed.
BTW I love the jelly roll you have those are some nice colors.
There have been some that have made bargello's using the jelly roll.
What ever you decide I hope it is fun to do.

I made the one I had into a bargello. It's one of my favorite quilts.

shequilts 09-30-2010 06:11 PM

It won't matter. Whatever pattern you use will be wonderful with those fabrics. They're great!

CarrieAnne 09-30-2010 06:24 PM

They sure are nice fabrics!

I saw someone on the board who did the jellyroll quilt but then cut them into blocks of say 5 strips. She then sashed the whole thing. It was so pretty. Wish I could remember it :(
But the jellyroll quilt is always a winner!!!!!!!!!! :D

Albujudy 09-30-2010 08:22 PM

There is great pattern call Boxy Stars! and I got it from this great board.

charismah 09-30-2010 09:02 PM

Here is my super fast jelly roll top. Is it the same as what nativetexan used for her quilt.

jitkaau 10-02-2010 01:56 AM

I was given a Jelly Monster rule for my birthday, so I plan to use it and fast assembling techniques to make all of the shapes one can cut from the jelly rolls using this device, and then randomly assemble the lot. Should be fun!

How about Garden Trellis? You make tubes and cut into triangles. Open them up and wala, you have a square. This is one of my favorite patterns. It is in the book "Jelly Roll Quilts" by Pam & Nicky Lintott.

That is a really pretty quilt. Did you sew the strips together cut out squares, then cut in half diagonally twice and resew back together, or was there an easier way to do this?

Janebird 10-02-2010 06:59 AM

I just finished a quilt top made from a suggestion on this site. Sew the strips together, end to end, then fold the long piece that results in half and stitch together. Fold it in half again and again until you have a top of 64 strips. The colours are entirely random and it looks fantastic. I've taken it to a LQ and can't wait to get it back. The top was done in 2 afternoons! I'm sorry I can't remember who posted the directions - it wasn't done as a tute.

Lovely bright colors! What about making a lasagna quilt with each strip separated with a small 1" strip of black, both at the ends of the strips and between them the long ways. The black would really set off the colors and make a beautiful quilt. Here is a picture of one I found on the internet:

I'm working on some from the book Quilts from the Heart by Karin Renaud.

Janet My 10-03-2010 06:36 AM

How about this. It looks easy and quick

Found it on the Victorian Quilt Design site. I saved it for future use.
