What is WRONG with my machine???
 

OK, I just don't get it... I've been sewing just fine, now... issues! No matter how I adjust the tension, the bottom thread is loose, and pulls right out. It was bunching up something terrible, so I took the whole bobbin area apart and cleaned it out, and reassembled it. It made a horrible 'thud' (I thought the needle broke, honestly) then started stitching fine, except the bottom stitches are still not right.

Am I just super tired (which I am) and missing something obvious? Or is there something odd going on here??

FYI, I'm using a Brother CE7070.

Unthread your machine and take the bobbin out. Check for threads in bobbin area. Rethread the machine and the bobbin. Sometimes this works when nothing else does.

when i have those sorts of problems i usually find that i have either had the bobbin in backward or had not run the thread through the little thingy that holds it in place before it feeds up through the plate. (i'll bet that description is about as clear as mud. LOL)

yep. that's what i said. more often than i care to admit. LOL

it might also be that you will have to fiddle with the adjustment again in order to get it back where it started.

I take the thread out, the bobbin out and clean the whole machine.

then I put in a new needle, the spool of thread and the bobbin put back into the bobbin case...

usually works for sewing like a champ.

i've found that 'fluff' collects behind/in the tension spring of the bobbin casing. i take a thin silk pin and put it behind the spring. you may be surprised how much fluff comes out.

There must be a sewing machine virus going around! I had this exact thing happen to me on Tuesday night - the thud, the loose thread on the back, etc....I also was very tired when it happened, actually cried (and I rarely cry), vowed to give up "stupid" sewing forever....went back into the sewing room on Wed night, did basically everything that everyone here has mentioned and now my machine is back to it's old self....sewing right along...

Oh that nasty sewing Gremlin. You would think that he would take a day off every now and again. He stopped by here yesterday to shred some thread and skip some stitches. And just as quickly as he showed up....he left. I'd try rethreading both the upper and lower thread. Check your tension on top to make sure that nasty gremlin didn't move it. I've a different model brother that seems to be very picky. It doesnt like the least little bit of fuzz build up or loose threads in the bobbin area. So you might want to try cleaning and oiling if its allowed on your machine. Mine says not to but I find it works better if i do. I think they say that so we have to take in to be serviced more often. Good luck chasing out that nasty little booger, but dont send him over here!

I've had that and done all the things "necessary" to solve the problem. And it didn't. Then I changed thread. That did it. Sometimes these machines are just so persnickery!

I was having problems earlier this week and realized my bobbin was too full. I usually always stop the bobbin winder before it is completely full, but this time I let it run till it shut itself off. When the bobbin is too full, I have problems. Also, are you using the same thread in the bobbin and the top of the machine? Are you using a "different" fabric, like a flannel or fleece? Do you have your feed dogs up or down? Remove the plate that the feed dogs stick through - you would be surprised all the lint that collects there. Then re-thread the entire machine. Good luck.

When you rethread the machine, make sure your presser foot is up - that opens up the tension disks so the top thread will be seated properly.
