We were planning to spend the weekend in Theodore Roosevelt Park; but with the run-off from the mountains in Montana;the Garrison dam in Lake Sackewea has been releasing lots of water down stream. The park is flooded where we normally park our camper, and all small streams and creeks anre filling up with this water also.

BIsmarck is suffering from this; many people are getting flooded out. BIsmarck is bulding a dam to protect most of the city from this ever happening again. THose who have built on land that was built up for home development are the ones that are really suffering. South Dakota is starting to feel this also at Pierre.

We are home and will be planting and working in the yard. Things we should have done before I went to England and Ireland last month. Getting ready to travel to Wisconsin and stopping to see kid and grands and great grands on the way home. OMG, it wears me out to think about it! Oh yeah, before that dh and I are delegates to our Oklahoma Methodist conference next week. Thank goodness it is in OKC this year instead of Tulsa!

ontheriver 05-28-2011 01:37 PM

I am marking quilting lines and sandwiching a full size to get ready to FMQ, in between reading the board that is.

zipit 05-28-2011 01:43 PM

I am making window coverings. I need to make a quick trip out for mount boards and miscellaneous hardware then it's sew, sew, sew.

I finally got rid of my "rent optional" tenant and can put the house up for sale and (hopefully) new window coverings will be a plus when shown.

My friend has had 4 brain surgerys since Easter, so I cooked for them. She got home on Friday. Praise God!!!

PaperPrincess 05-28-2011 01:48 PM

Sadiemae 05-28-2011 02:02 PM

I was going to do the dreaded yardwork, but it is raining again!

Maggiesmom 05-28-2011 02:04 PM

My son and a friend have come from NC for a quick week-end visit. Went to a local winery today and will have cook-out tonight and again tomorrow. Pool is getting warmer so will do a little water kickin'. Relaxing and enjoying.

Kooklabell 05-28-2011 02:12 PM

We're at the beach with the kids. Its our annual tradition -eldest grandson's birthday weekend. We're in MA at the "other cape". Its wonderful - 85, cooler today and 88 on Monday is predicted. The kids are having a blast. We're off for some fish... MMMMM

Joanie2 05-28-2011 02:26 PM

Just sat down after a long morning. I hung up new blinds on my 5 bedroom windows. Of course the hardware was not the same as what I already had so needed to change that as well. Washed all the curtains and the bedding. Just finished putting the quilt back on the bed. While I was inside working my DH was straightening up the garage and the shed and is still outside. He had hoped to get started on the yardwork but alas, it's raining now. Still need to get the lawn furniture up. Tomorrow I am sewing. I have 3 bags I need to finish before July 4 as well as a wallhanging that is about 2/3 done. Don't really have a desire to get out in the crowds and traffic for holidays. I live near a Six Flags park and the freeways are jammed so even going out to the fabric store is just crazy. Luckily I made my Joanne's trek last night. Beat the crowds so I'm happy.

Raggiemom 05-28-2011 02:39 PM

I'm working on a couple different quilting projects this weekend. We sprayed for ants outside this afternoon and pulled a few weeds from the landscaping. I looked sadly at the tomato plants. They just don't look good. I don't know if it's all the rain we got or what. I just hope they survive. We're going to grill out tomorrow and I'm trying to decide if I need a Joanns run or not. They don't carry any of the W&W packaged batting and I don't really need any thread at the moment; those are the 2 big things I usually buy at Joanns.

Mariposa 05-28-2011 02:49 PM

I'm enjoying being at home! Had my son spend the night and part of today. Had a great visit! Plan on "catching up" on some sewing projects too! :)

MissM 05-28-2011 02:54 PM

I had a garage sale today..but it was pretty much a bust, lots of traffic but few sales. Only made $26.00...so DH and I are going out to eat. Did work on a quilt while I was sitting outside. That is a new experience! Quite a challenge too, fighting the breeze and hanging onto blocks. LOL. Anyway all was not lost. Plan to spend the next two days doing more of the same and then Tues ... back to work. :-(

sunni 05-28-2011 05:24 PM

Yesterday and today I went shopping for fabric :) Hit the weekend sale at Hayloft Fabrics and today went to Joanns  Will post pictures tomorrow

DH and I went out to dinner both nights, so tomorrow is dinner at home for sure!

Tomorrow after I do some cleaning and closet switching I hope to play with my fabrics 8-) .

After the last few mornings of -1/-2degC, the days have been nice and sunny so DH has done the trimming of all trees and bushes in the yard (under my supervision) :)

I have completed a large quilt top, put borders on a small red/white/black 'Think Outside the Box' wallhanging and cut up squares to go around a scrap Think Outside the Box wallhanging.

:( Now I have to clean the house - its getting towards the end of the weekend for me, back to work tomorrow

montanajan 05-28-2011 10:41 PM

Attended a wedding - 1 sonwss best man; another son officiated at the ceremony; DIL was the professional wedding photographer. It was supposed to be outdoors - thank goodness for "Plan B" - inside a big barn-like structure, with decorations, tables, dinner, music, etc. Guests were handed umbrellas as they got out of their cars!
More snow in the mountains around us - Glacier National Park received another foot of snow last night. If any of you are planning a vacation to the Park, know that though some campgrounds are open, the "Going to the Sun" road over Logan Pass may not open for weeks yet - there are at least 16 feet deep snowdrifts for the plows to push aside; may be one of the latest openings ever in the Park's over 100 year history.
And the rain has cancelled any other plans we may have had - riding our horses, planting the garden, other yard work; hoping for better weather later into the week.
Happy Memorial day & BBQ time to all of you!
Jan

After almost 9 weeks with a now permanently dislocated arm, finally got enough movement to be able to do some sewing. Almost finished machine quilting a nine patch. Seeing orthopedic surgeon tomorrow and hope to finish quilt after I get home. :)

hmross 05-29-2011 02:54 AM

Me, I went to our local "feast of the flowering moon". We have it every year in May. It runs all weekend long.

Edie 05-29-2011 03:04 AM

I am going to cook up some potato salad, homemade baked beans, barbeque a rack of ribs and bake carrot bars for my husband and me for Memorial Day. Other than that I plan to work in the yard and work on a baby quilt that I am doing in pinwheels and another in the Depression pattern. I do a lot of my sewing on the patio and that is what I am going to do this weekend. No chasing around or anything.

Come Father's Day and our anniversary, the kids are coming over and we will have a fun celebration that day, besides they have fencing to put up this weekend. They have a baby goat that can jump straight up 5 feet and over the fence. Busy hands!!!!! I, too, hope we don't get any more rain. Right now it is dark and gloomy, but there is no wind. So, we'll just see how the day goes. Got flowers taken to four different cemeteries yesterday, so that is all taken care of. Now it is just some cooking and doing what we would like to do for the rest of the weekend. Don't forget to fly your flag and God Bless America. Edie

dewie45 05-29-2011 03:25 AM

We took flowers to the cemeteries yesterday then I baked a
Texas sheet cake and a turkey breast and a small ham to slice for sandwiches. We are having a family open house this afternoon. Others will be bring 'carry-in' dishes. We expect a little over 20 people. The race will be on the radio if we can get it in of course. That is an old tradition. Looking forward to good weather as last week brought high winds and a small tornado that devastated a section on the other side of town.
We were very fortunate that one missed us.

chamby 05-29-2011 03:31 AM

Well lets see, It started yesterday. I had to add another row to the king size rag quilt that I made a while back for my son to give to a friend as a BD gift. Then I went to JoAnn fabric to buy warm and natural that was on sale for half price. By the way they have big sale going on and still only one person at the cutting table. Then I went to Hancock fabric. I found the blue and white fabric I have been searching for, which was on sale. Then I decided to look and see if they had the Ez3 hand quilting frame on sale. They did and my wonderful DH bought it for me. I am doing the happy happy dance. I can not wait to get it put together and get started. Yippe!!!

Aquarius 05-29-2011 04:15 AM

I am starting to hand quilt a queen sized log cabin quilt that I made for my son. It has taken me two years to get to this point. I want to have it done for Christmas.

gunny148 05-29-2011 04:21 AM

Remembering those who have give us the freedom to do what we do.

annesthreads 05-29-2011 04:31 AM

It's a holiday weekend in the UK too. I'm spending time quilting - having finally managed to persuade my machine to do FMQ without the tension going crazy, I'm enjoying myself! This morning I went to an exhibition by 2 textile artists who are producing wonderful original work based on quilting but taking it much, much further. So inspiring.
It's just started to rain, so now I have the perfect excuse not to do all the gardening that's waiting for me - back to the sewing machine!

Nanaof4 05-29-2011 04:46 AM

Binding a quilt for a fellow teacher who will retire at the end of June.

Maralyn 05-29-2011 04:52 AM

DH and I are watching the Indy 500 - we have attended all but two races since 1990, but he had surgery on May 13 and the doctor said "no" to the long road trip. Our son is there with friends, so we will be looking for live reports from him as to what the view is from our seats.

We may take a shorter road trip to one of the Missouri dams that is not far from here to see the water flowing out of the open gates, giving prayers of thanks for the vision of men years ago, who built the dams to save towns on the river below them.

kittiebug 05-29-2011 05:43 AM

I'm going to my sister -in - laws for a cookout. Looking forward to it, a lot of good food and I'm not cooking.

grandjan 05-29-2011 05:54 AM

Gardening, clean-up. I'm going to a wedding next week and having out-of-town visitors, then going to pick up my grandchildren. Summer is always busy.

Jo Mama 05-29-2011 06:15 AM

I feel so bad that you can't go to the park and that there has been flooding. The panhandle is dry as a bone. Send me some rain. Thanks!!

CarrieAnne 05-29-2011 06:19 AM

WORKING, lol, but fun work! Ripped out my parents garden from last year, my Dad had surgury and wont be able to garden this year. Today we need to chop up a tree that fell at their house and bring home some fire wood. Got a new to me "gaden weasel" I need to try out too!
Hope I can get a tiny bit of sewing done too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

whinnytoo 05-29-2011 06:21 AM

Barbshobbies 05-29-2011 07:11 AM

So far we did chores in the barn, and put the animals out. It is getting warm out. how nice, then we unloaded a pick-up truck of mulch and spread it. We need twice as much yet, but now I`m checking this board, when rested I will kill a few weeds and hoe if it isn`t to wet. Then I`ll ask DH if he will help me get curtain rods down, so when it rains again I can sew curtains with the material I got at JoAnn`s yesterday. I have many hobbies, so holidays go by fast. All the grown childeren are up north--they all work hard and need time off.

Barbara Mahoney 05-29-2011 10:15 AM

I'm sitting here looking out the window at the snow. Yes, I said SNOW!

blueeyez 05-29-2011 10:55 AM

Was going to plant today, but the rain started again. Will go work on a charity quilt, then hopefully BBQ for hubby and me.

KSue 05-29-2011 11:53 AM

Love your avatar by the way. I am working on two baby quilts for my son - no he is not having a baby, he asked me to make a quilt for a gift. Also working on a quilt for nephew. I may have to start hand quilting again. Just finished God Bless America wall hanging for daughter's birthday.

charhend 05-29-2011 12:03 PM

We have nothing special planned for the weekend. I just finished picking up all the Pecan tree branches and twigs that have blown all over the yard from the horrible winds we have had all spring. Also, mowed the lawn, looks so much better. I put a quilt on the long arm a few days ago and need to go out to the quilting room and get started on it.
