Titanium blades for rotary cutter
A tool to poke corners out (it's wooden) also use it for finger pressing

Extra blades for rotary cutter and extra needles of various sizes. Good scissors, lighting, and fabric.

Gosh, I like all my notions, gadgets, books and machines....it is like asking me which child I love the most: D ! I have had my AccuQuiltGo a few years, definitely one of my best purchases over $20.00. Another great purchase is a large dresser from SA with a set of pullout drawers behind doors in the middle, perfect for threads. I cleaned it , changed the hardware, and put a homemade big ironing board on top. I am a sucker for quilt books bought on sale, under $20.00!

Looking over all my "stuff" there are things which I hold dear:
large Olfa cutting mat 45mm Fiskars cutter small fine pins (easier for me to use for small piecing)
longer pins wrist pin cushion with material wrist band and velcro fastener iron and board v. small scissor that has curved blades (I use for trimming threads) a seam ripper.
There are so many other do-dads you may want. As you sew you'll have a better understanding of your needs. Make a wish list and in time you'll see how important some of those things are for you to have. Good wishes for successful sewing! P.S. And, don't be discouraged if you hit a dry spell and don't feel like sewing...it happens to the best of us. Blessings, A.

keeping to one of each category, frixion marking pens and a good iron! Otherwise , extra bobbins, sharp seam ripper, glue sticks, 6 ad 12" square up rulers, big board, and at least 4 consecutive , uninterrupted hours a day.

Ditto! I'm fairly new at quilting and these three items are must haves and have served me well. I have added the June Taylor Shape Cut, with 1/2" slots and have just ordered QIAD's 16" square up ruler (Beverly's had them for $15.99!)

Under $20 doesn't include much. Quality thread, titanium sewing machine needles, and seam ripper are my must haves.
Over $20 would be large mat and cutter, good iron, selection of rulers, small and large size quality scissors.

My quilting must haves are way over the $20 amount these days.

Niagara non-aerosol spray starch and a vintage heavy, dry iron are my two cheaper choices that I don't like to piece/quilt without. The more costly item: a Juki TL2010 straight stitch machine.

A rotary cutter in 2 sizes and cutting mat, a good pair of scissors is essential, a 6"x12", 6" x 24" ruler, plus a 6.5" square, 6" square and 4" square rulers to square up blocks, plus my 12.5" square up ruler for squaring up blocks which make my quilts easier to square up when I'm done; and of course 2 or 3 seam rippers because I always put mine down and then can't find them again, just like my small scissors for snipping threads.

One item under $20 is a good pair of scissors. One item over $20 that is essential would be cutting mat with rotary cutter.

Hello all!

I've learned that quilting isn't exactly cheap, lol. There are so many notions and tools that it can all be quite overwhelming. My mother always said that Rome wasn't built in a day. Still, being the planner that I am, I would like to make a wishlist of items every quilter should have. So ladies...

Please name one item under $20 and one item over $20 (other than a sewing machine) that you believe is essential for every quilter.

Thanks in advance!
