What are you working on?

I'm ready to get going on something. It's mid November. So do I start a Christmas quilt? Keep working on multiple projects already started? What are you planning on for the rest of November and then December? Hand applique? Paper piecing? Something easy and quick? Presents?

maryb119 11-14-2018 04:59 PM

I'm working on the binding of a quilt I made for my mom for Christmas.

Tartan 11-14-2018 05:12 PM

I sandwiched a quilt to get it ready for quilting. I ironed Hobbs 80/20 batt on the floor so I probably will wait until my muscles to recover before quilting.:D

I am working on memory quilts. We lost my sister this year so I am making memory quilts for her grandchildren and children. I have the 3 for the grandkids done - whew! Now to get started on the 2 for the kids..... busy busy busy

ILoveToQuilt 11-14-2018 05:29 PM

I am working on The Splendid Sampler quilt blocks. This is a guild project - we each bought the book and are working at our own pace. I am doing all the blocks in shades of blue using light blue as a unifying (background) fabric in the majority of blocks. I have about 20 completed. There are some in the book that I don't care for, so I am substituting my own blocks. So far, I like working on this project. 6 inch blocks, no two alike, this will keep my interest for quite a while...at least I hope it will!

Anniedeb 11-14-2018 05:31 PM

I just finished 3 tote bags my sister asked me to make. I'm working on 8 more for Christmas gifts. I also have a Christmas panel I've been wanting to do, but can't seem to get to it. Our son had a change in plans, so I just found out we're hosting Thanksgiving for 10, so my dining room, which is my sewing room, needs to be cleaned out! Guess I'd better get busy!!

nativetexan 11-14-2018 05:43 PM

hexagons. i should be quilting a Fall quilt, making up Christmas ones, etc. But when ever I hit a slump, i find something of interest. hence the hex's. lots of them!

recycler 11-14-2018 06:18 PM

I need to bind 2 quilts I've made for my DS's MIL's grand daughters, and need to plan a boy one for a grandson to be of hers! I'm afraid I have a full time job on my hands with her family! Ha! Plus, I have a grandchild on the way myself, so...on and on it goes!

I'm waiting for a quilt to be returned from my LA so I'm in between projects right now. Finished all my Board swap projects that I am participating in. I have enough fabric left over from a kit to do some other kind of quilt. I might do the Zig Zag Zoom pattern with the extra. Going to explore that tomorrow...

Of course you have time for a Christmas quilt. I started cutting this yesterday and this is what I've got so far. I should get the top done tomorrow.I found this here on Qulit Board. Christmas ribbon, the thread is just a couple of days old. The top 5 rows are together and the bottom ones are just pinned on the design board. The challenge is if you get a directional pattern for several of the fabrics. I tried to stay with metallic Christmas print.

quiltingshorttimer 11-14-2018 11:00 PM

after my machine quilt guild lunch tomorrow, I plan to dig into tons of projects that have been sitting, "breathing" for the last 2 yrs while I spent all my quilting time doing customer work--I get to work on my own stuff for 7 whole weeks! (around holidays with family).

Jane Quilter 11-14-2018 11:48 PM

I got too many irons in the fire, again! But in my defense, they are different skills to avoid boredom. I'm doing an Elizabeth Hartman's Awesome Ocean for piecing fun, Snow Ladies for embroidery fun, a DiFord antique wedding quilt for applique fun, a Quilt of Valor for scrap piecing fun & charity, and a baby quilt due back from the LA for a gift. Oh, and I better finish those two Christmas stockings for the grands. But nothing has a deadline, so there is no stress.....just busy, busy, busy.

LilaKay 11-15-2018 03:10 AM

I am headed to a class with Karen K Stone that is an all day long class!!

SillySusan 11-15-2018 03:27 AM

I have three more baby quilts ready for the hand sewing part of the binding and 2 more ready to be sandwiched... they are all donation ones. I promised delivery right after Thanksgiving... of the quilts; not the babies! :)

SSStitches 11-15-2018 03:31 AM

I am about 4 days from finishing a lap quilt made for a friend using his crown royal bags. Hard part was making it a cabin kinda quilt without too much purple, so it would go with their log cabin home.

Striving to finish my 2018 projects before 2019 sneaks up...our modern quilt guild did Jen Kingwell’s Long Time Gone and it took me forever to pick a sashing...all of the blocks have been completed just need to assemble.
I also jumped on board with Riley Blake’s quilt along “Meet the Makers” and just have the Alternate blocks to construct...all 25 of them but this wasn’t on my 2018 list of projects so I’m not stressed in getting this one done...(yet).

I finally finished quilting my version of Hanging gardens this week! I did QAYG on the large blocks then sewed blocks together in strips. Then I sewed the strips together. It’s very large & far from perfect, but it’s for me so I don’t care about the imperfections. Now I have to bind it. I need to get going since it’s plopped on my dining room table & I'm hosting our family dinner next week! I have my machines & all the ‘stuff’ I use for quilting set up in my dining room, so I have to get that cleared out. What a chore!

maminstl 11-15-2018 05:04 AM

I am working on a quilt, but will put that aside when I decide what to make for my 4 young nieces. I'm thinking robes this year out of cotton velour. However, I am a sucker for the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt projects - so will probably find time for that also.

luvstoquilt 11-15-2018 05:20 AM

I am doing a Bear Paw right now and some appliqué in the evening(just 2squares to go on the appliqué). The Bear Paw is cut out and I will start sewing today.

Joset 11-15-2018 05:29 AM

i am working on 6 quilts for christmas presents four lap quilts and 2 quilt as you go. i have three done and two more
to get on long arm and bind and one quilt as you go to bind.

SusieQOH 11-15-2018 05:45 AM

I have a Christmas quilt from last year that I still haven't quilted! My FMQ skills aren't the best. I'm also piecing another one for Christmas. I really need to practice my FMQ more so I can get things done!

rvsfan 11-15-2018 06:23 AM

I am very sorry for your loss .

Snooze2978 11-15-2018 06:26 AM

I decided I needed a quilt to sleep under at my quilt retreats so jumped into my scrap stash and pulled out all bright colored 5" precuts and anything fabrics that were at least 5" by 10" as I need 2 of each color 5 x 5. Pulled out enough plus a few extra just in case. Then I pulled out my Shop Hop white and black from 2016 as I've never used them. Found a pattern in my Pat Speth book called Millinium Star and decided on that pattern instead of Tillie's Treasures which I'd made for a friend this past summer. Got everything starched and pressed, cut, marked, etc. Have all the units made, binding is made but now I need to put this project aside and get back to the quilt machine with a quilt that has been sitting on it almost finished. Down to the last 2 set of borders/sashings and get it finished and off the frame. And of course I have this diamond logcabin on the design wall that's been waiting to be finished for 2 years but can't decide how to finish the corners. Will have to contact the designer on how to go about making the sunray corners. The math on that one has me stumped..........reason why its been an UFO for so long. So that's what I'm up to today.................plus I cut out a skirt to make myself and its just waiting for me to get off my duff and stitch it up too. My mojo has been lagging lately.

SuzzyQ 11-15-2018 06:31 AM

Pj pants for the family for Christmas! Four down and one near done, two to be cut out ( story later) and then six to go.... then I need to make place mats or table runner/mat for each household.... including mine!

SuzzyQ 11-15-2018 06:32 AM

But first have to get some pesky non-sewing things done!

Iceblossom 11-15-2018 08:21 AM

We don't do much for Christmas, no grandkids and everyone pretty much settled so I'm working on my own projects. A few years ago I realized that although I made quilts all the time I gave them away and my own were falling apart so I decided that I would have one themed quilt for me for each month of the year. I just got back from visiting a friend in the Phoenix area and we shopped her stash for a few more fan blades for my Thanksgiving Turkey fan project. I'm making 25 blocks, each blade (200) is a different fabric. I have fussy cut turkey fabric for the pie piece of the fan. Today I will be combining 2-blade sections into 4-blades, then it's just one more seam for all 8 blades, so maybe I'll get that done too. I'll be using what I'm calling the Eleanor Burns method of using rickrack on the curved seams, basically appliqueing the pie and blade pieces onto a background so the rickrack shows as a textural element. I know I don't describe it well, here is a video (the rickrack part starts around minute 18)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ktzb2wMMwzc

While I was visiting my friend, she gifted me her previous primary machine, a nice modern Bernina. That came in the mail last night and so needs to be unpacked and set up. I'm not sure, I'll need to move some furniture around to find out but I might have to change out the electrical outlet to a three-prong one, my house was built in 1963 with 2-prong and I've upgraded all the other outlets.

My next project which will be done on the new machine is another one for me. It's for the month of June and the theme is vacation/travel. I have collected a wide variety of actual postcard sized pieces. I went on a trip back home to Alaska (grew up there from ages 10-23 -- my friend in Phoenix was actually a roommate back around 1982 or so) and got quite a few, and another 2 while in Phoenix. Very simple attic window sets around the postcards and then a black background grid so it sort of recalls the old scrapbooks. I've got my 58+ postcards needed and it will go fast.

That should take me through the rest of the year. I have a bunch of tops to quilt down, will try a couple of donation crib sized quilts on the Bernina. I have one other quilt in progress, August whose theme is "Farm/Harvest" which is very different than my usual traditional style. It will have a few pieced blocks, the large Barn block is done, there will be a hen and chicks, 2 tiny hummingbirds, a horse face, pig face, couple others, and the rest of the quilt will be random sized largish pieces of fabric of crops (only those grown in Washington so no lemons or pineapples!), with some roads between the crops on the bottom. Then various farm animals in the middle including the pieced blocks. The Barn & Hummingbirds will be in the top third, as will the horses and will go up to a lake with ducks and trees and other farm scenes in the distance. It will be simply quilted with a chicken wire grid and then embellished with all sorts of things like tractors in the roads, bunny buttons in the cabbages, an owl patch in the upper barn opening, etc. etc.

And then I have fabric collected and ready to go for several projects :) I've gotten a number of ideas for new projects from this board... the only downside to being here!

Doggramma 11-15-2018 08:25 AM

I'm working on finishing up some projects. I always have to fight the urge to start something new and exciting! At some point I'm planning on making a few zipper pouches for christmas gifts.

gramajo 11-15-2018 09:28 AM

I need to quilt the borders on 3 sides of the Disney Princesses quilt I'm making for my grand niece. My DD will sew the binding on. Then I have to finish a BBQ2 i'm making a friend for Christmas.

SouthPStitches 11-15-2018 09:33 AM

I'm doing a needle turn Bunny Hill applique project called "Snowman Country". Plan to also hand quilt it and send it to a dear friend for Christmas. Hope to have the applique and embroidery done on the nine blocks by the end of the weekend. It's very slow going but am enjoying the process. Am not too proficient on any method of applique but it will be a labor of love.

coffeecozy 11-15-2018 11:05 AM

I'm working on a fun Christmas quilt called Ho Ho is Spoken here. I pull it out every year or so and do a block or two. I have really enjoyed it as a Christmas warm up.
I have a baby quilt I need to get sandwiched for a gift and a king sized quilt that I did for our camper that I am almost done quilting.

Texas_Sue 11-16-2018 04:12 AM

I'm binding an Advent Calendar for my DGD. Need to get it finished and filled with little treats before Thanksgiving so she can take it home for the Christmas countdown. I've also got son-in-law's quilt sandwiched and ready to quilt. Was supposed to have given it to him last Christmas so as you can see I'm a little behind, LOL.

lblank42 11-16-2018 09:49 AM

Trying to finish the bargello I'm working on before the end of the year. Also making little Christmas curtains for my kitchen, and some oven mitts and pot holders for gifts. Also just finished some FSL ornaments for the tree. That was fun once I got some Vilene stabilizer. Thanks to whoever suggested it here on the board!

Iceblossom 11-16-2018 09:54 AM

Got the fan blades sewn together after a mishap or two. Nothing major, just my pickiness asserting itself. Unpacked the new-to-me machine and cleared off my old buddy Remy, about to move the new machine into place and do some warm-ups/tests. I'm surprisingly sad to put the old machine away, we've been sewing together for a long time (20 years or so).

Then it's time to sew the rickrack on the curves, both the fan blades and the pie piece, that's my goal to have done in time for small group on Tuesday, sewn and pressed and ready to set onto the background pieces. I don't do much handwork and it's always hard for me to have something ready to go to small group so this will be good.

Edit: I didn't have to move any furniture but I did have to replace the outlet. Yay! After 20 years (seriously) of procrastinating I finally did it.

HettyB 11-16-2018 10:21 AM

Stash busting. Just finished the top for a baby quilt (chambray blue and china white floral); on the design wall ready to assemble is twin sized HST quilt of teal blue floral and white both for Linus

Before the New Year I plan (you know what they say about best made plans) to have cleared the stash by making very simple, colourful quilts for Linus or other charity projects so I can concentrate on wholecloth quilts.

crafty pat 11-16-2018 11:36 AM

I am working on a queen size for DD for Christmas. I started sandwiching it today but have to put it away until all are gone back home after Thanksgiving.

rryder 11-16-2018 12:07 PM

I’m still trying to finish piecing a t-shirt quilt for my cousin- it’s like pulling teeth because I just don’t enjoy piecing, I’d much rather quilt, but it’s looking nice and I’ve just got to decide whether to add some borders or use some more t-shirts to extend the width and length by 12”.

I’ve also got a whole cloth doodle quilt that Still needs a little more quilting and some painting.

Rob

madamekelly 11-16-2018 01:47 PM

I am not working on a quilt currently. Right now I am working on making patterns for my 1/3 BJD (ball jointed doll).
The company that made my doll is interested in marketing my patterns, since this doll is not the same size as the others that are available. Go figure, I spend 28 years making quilts and make very little profit, but I get a new doll and it may make my fortune. Life is funny like that.

geevee 11-16-2018 01:55 PM

I'm waiting for the mailman to deliver printer ink so I can finish printing pictures onto muslin to make patches for pillow covers for my daughters - supposed to be delivered today but it hasn't shown 'out for delivery' yet. ;)

sewnclog 11-16-2018 02:17 PM

I'm working on 37 fingertip pot holders for my dance group and will make a few for family and a couple of friends. And am going to add the skillet handles. Very quick which is what I needed. Choosing the fabrics and linings, batting and insulbright and cutting them to size takes longer than actually sewing them together.

kat13 11-16-2018 03:32 PM

So sorry to hear this news! Having made memory quilts myself, it was therapy for me as well as comfort for the recipient!
