What are you working on this week?

Are you starting a new project, or finishing up old ones?

Or maybe attending graduation parties, and not sewing at all?

Lori S 06-15-2012 01:22 PM

In my neck of the woods it is going to be HOT , and more HOT. So yes this time of year I love that my sewing room is in the basement where it is so cool. I will be working on various projects.. mostly building my inventory for a craft show.
What are you working on?

I am trying my hand at curved piecing - I found this great pattern from the Dresden challenge - so I wanted to try it - those bias edges are difficult - it looks interesting but I have a lot of puckers - its a learning experience.

A shop hop kit from a couple of years ago that I just got at an estate sale. It is made with Hoffman metallics and coordinates. Easy blocks and lots of extra fabric. I am also finishing up a flange pillow.

Attaching the borders to a neutral Patches and Pinwheels quilt top as well as a Kaffe Fassett "S" block quilt.

I'm finishing up something that needs to be done, but I've lost my enthusiasm. It's an Eleanor Burns Lover's Knot - King Sized. The top came out really nice. I love the colors (yellow, gold and greens) i was going to make it as a duvet cover, so I just lined the top with muslin and am using a decorative stitch outlining the knots. I didn't pin it enough so it looks sloppy in spots. Not one of my better efforts. However, I think it will look ok once completed. It's going to be my Summer cover.

Scissor Queen 06-15-2012 02:30 PM

I'll be finishing projects for patterns. I have both patterns designed and written, I just need to complete the projects to go with them.

sharon b 06-15-2012 02:31 PM

I might take my scraps out front on the porch and cut them down to strips and squares- something simple since we are so HOT again - Might also start cutting out another top -hhhmmm decisions, decisions..... LOL

nycquilter 06-15-2012 02:43 PM

I just finished a birthday quilt for my cousin's 50th. There are about 20 photos in it, each the center of a star with each star being different. Then, I couldn't figure quite what to do so I made a kitty caddy and she is darling. I hemmed and hawed and finally decided to make a scrap quilt from squares I already had cut--2-1/2x6-1/2 and 2-1/2x2-1/2. Yesterday, I made all the individual blocks and today have started sewing them together into the pieced top. I think after I take the bread out of the oven, I'll go do some more. I'd like this to be a quick project that maybe I can get quilted soon.

Two or three projects .... in the following order

Make a sewing case for a QB swap. I need to purchase some wool for the inside.

Purchase fabric for and make a chemo quilt for a good friend who had her first chemo treatment last week. Planning on a "jelly roll race" with bright colors (need to purchase) with an applique on top - a life size (or close to it) black silhouette of a woman in a sexy pose, and words appliqued in black. Won't tell you what it's going to say yet :)

Finish the baby quilt for my 2nd grandchild due in October. I need to finish putting the rows together, buy the fabric for the applique, and sew the applique on.

dakotamaid 06-15-2012 02:51 PM

I'm experimenting with different sizes of Disappearing 4 patch. I sewed a 12 inch, a 8 inch and a 6 inch. (finished sizes.) I like the 8 the best. Used the same fabrics for all 3. Going to do some donation quilts for kids with the 6 inch. Bit hard to sew as I'm wearing a neck collar due to my vertigo. That will pass in a day or so, than on to more sewing.

Sewnoma 06-15-2012 03:04 PM

I happen to be on vacation next week, and I've set aside four whole days to do nothing but finish up several lap-sized quilts I've started but not finished. I also need to design a pair of similar-but-not-the-same quilts for my cousin's two boys (age 2 and 4) and hopefully get a start on those. I can't wait!

Raggiemom 06-15-2012 03:13 PM

I finished a queen sized quilt earlier this week and am making some clothes now. I also have a couple small quilts to finish.

psquared52 06-15-2012 03:22 PM

Just finished binding a donation quilt to a local Alzheimer's Walk group. It's the second one I've made and I am very glad it's almost ready to be handed over. I get bored easily and has learned while the first quilt is fun and exciting...the second one is not!

psquared52 06-15-2012 03:24 PM

Vertigo is no fun! Never heard of wearing a collar though. Maybe I don't have it often enough. Hope you feel better soon.

joyce888 06-15-2012 03:46 PM

Unfortunately I'm not working on a quilt. Instead I'm making a new canopy and cushion coverings for a swing. The canopy alone took 7 yards (56" wide) of fabric and the cushions over 4 yards. SOO glad when it's done!

Krisb 06-15-2012 03:51 PM

Finish binding June doll quilt and mail.
Finish three other blocks promised.
Press some new fabric I bought (all 50% off).
Finish at least one block of the Dizzy Geese UFO.

Working on a Boy Scout quilt for my grandson's birthday at the end of the month. I'm using Norman Rockwell's panels, sashed with a coordinating fabric from the same line, and borders from 2 different coordinating fabrics also from the same line. Once I got the panels cut out, I had a real bear of a time getting them all to the same size ( you know how it is with printed panels, they look the same size till you cut them apart to use them), but I finally got it done. I'm almost ready for the borders, then I'm going to FMQ on my domestic machine. I think I'll have enough of one of the border fabrics and the printed on borders that I cut off of the panel fabric to make him a matching pillowcase. Good thing I got a small window air conditioner for my upstairs sewing room or he wouldn't be getting these for his birthday at the end of the month, he'd be getting them for Christmas!

Neesie 06-15-2012 04:00 PM

Today, I'm working on a needle case, for the QB exchange. Hoping to get it finished, this evening.

Tomorrow, I need to clean up my sewing area (again) and decide what I want to do, with DGD's quilt (WIP). Can't decide whether to just back it with flannel or a blanket, or use batting and then back it. If I use batting, I have to get something other than my Warm & White, because of the appliques; when the W&W shrinks, it'll make the appliques look goofy, since they're backed with the fusible stuff (and a bit stiff). I've already got the flannel cut but am now seriously leaning toward just backing it, with a blanket . . . if the blanket is big enough. I'm getting soooooo tired of fooling with that quilt . . . and just want to get it FINISHED! Just need to make up my mind and stop changing it!!!!! :p

suern3 06-15-2012 04:05 PM

Hopefully, I will have time to work on quilting my DGS's baseball t-shirt quilt! I've been able to do some of the stitch-in- the- ditch to anchor everything together, but still have a ways to go and then do a FMQ large meander to finish. It is so heavy, I told my DH it is like wrestling a bear! I'm doing this on my Pfaff domestic machine.

quiltingb1 06-15-2012 04:08 PM

I am machine quilting a king size civil war quilt (was a BOM) - have it about half done and in the evenings I am handquilting another civil war quilt that was a BOM. Am also in the process of trying to decide what I want to make next.

ShabbyTabby 06-15-2012 04:11 PM

I've been helping a new quilter make a quilt to take to a family reunion for a raffle. Have it almost done. Such a pleasure to introduce someone new to "our addiction". Her husband was so pleased that she is starting on a great hobby that he went out and bought her a brand new sewing machine and cutting table!!

hsweany 06-15-2012 04:39 PM

I just finished a baby quilt. I want to start cutting my red, white, and blue fabrics to make a star quilt. The fabric was on sale at Hancocks this week.

I have been out of school for 2 weeks and have been working very hard cleaning both inside and outside the house. I also have helped out some 4hers on their sewing projects. We will be on vacation next week and when I return I will get busy on some quilting projects. You know how it is...once you have been on vacation, you don't want to do any more housecleaning so that is why I have been working so hard to clean the past 2 weeks. Whew! Now I am ready for some fun. I go back to school at the end of July so summer is short, anyway.

QuiltMania 06-15-2012 05:47 PM

Working on my older son's high school graduation quilt that he and I designed (he graduates next year so I have time) and getting my younger son ready for some 4H events.

Putting the two color binding on a b day quilt for my daughter. My quilting machine has an electrical problem, so I'm using a back up. I don't have a short shank SITD foot - just slant needle so I will have to be very careful.

beatys9 06-15-2012 08:05 PM

My sister's beautiful little girl turns 1 year old next week so I spent the week sewing little girl outfits for her birthday. Unfortunately, I was in such a rush to get them in the mail this morning that I forgot to take pictures...oops. Now back to the Hunter's Star I've been working on since seeing Roolen's quilt & tutorial. On the bus ride to work this morning I had time to tear out the blocks I put together backwards... :( Now I shall reassemble them correctly :)

What are you working on?

Since you asked... one graduation party (for a co-worker's son). I did cut squares for one charity quilt. Other than that... endless weeding. We had four days of rain and it did wonders for all the weed seedlings. :-( Not to mention the slugs and snails.

Gee... d'ya suppose 20 snails per square foot is excessive?

got to do some sewing for my 10 month old granddaughter and some for my almost great granddaughter, too.

Then//???????????? Oh, a couple summer dresses for me. After that I think a personal sized quilt for the GD of a friend. Kiddo has had more medical problems in her 18 years than I'll ever have.

I am trying to finish a quilt for my nephew, (Lately known as the quilt from Hell LOL) it is a Navaho Rose I was worried about the points, not a problem, the blocks whent together very easy but things have gone down hill from there I think I have done more ripping than sewing! LOL finally got it on my LA yesterday and of course after working for 45 min everything started falling apart again, tensin great but thread kept breaking spent 2 hours changing needle, cleaning rethreading, you name it I tryed it finally gave up and shut the door on it. went back today and everything worked great ( have no Idea why, or what changed overnight) worked about 40 min, ran out if bobbin thread, and discovered the tension was off! LOL so now have to rip out the last 35 min of work!! Did I mention this is black thread on a black background? So will try again tomarrow Some day this quilt will be done and I can take a deep breath and enjoy sewing again!!LOL I hope!
