I can't tell a difference from quilts made with new or used fabrics if the quilts are made well. It is the feeling of the quilter that matters not what is used.

The first one - was a block taken from Pat Sloan's mystery quilt. Autumn Splendor [ATTACH=CONFIG]554053[/ATTACH] Autumn Glory: [ATTACH=CONFIG]554054[/ATTACH] and Autumn Wishes [ATTACH=CONFIG]554055[/ATTACH] The challenge for me, is, that I live in a country where we have no quilt shops and hardly any cotton fabric at the local stores. That leaves me the choice of buying on line or bringing it from the states when I visit, or "making do" with repurposing fabrics. I chose to make some this way as a challenge to myself but also to show that it can be done. Your quilts are just beautiful. Shows what can be done with upcycled fabric. |
Justflyinagain, those quilts are just wonderful and to think you used all repurposed fabric is amazing to me. I do save scraps because I have every intention of making scrap quilts, Bonnie Hunter's method, "one of these days". :)

Wow! What a great show! These are amazing quilts! Justflyingin, you must really love to use small pieces. These are pieces of art! I haven't done anything like this, but I have upcycled old jeans and t-shirts into new quilts.

Justflyingin--what a wonderful collection of upcylced quilts--truly inspiring.
a friend gave me a hand pieced g-ma's flower garden this winter that she planned to throw away--her ex husband before his death had bought at an auction and it had been stashed in her garage since. Was extremely dirty and musty and what a collection of fabrics--mostly 70's & 80's poly linens, worn flannel (nightgowns?), some cottons, some twills, some dress prints and even a nylon knit nightgown print! I soaked in washer tub with Restoration, laid outside flat to dry, and then quilted onto inexpensive muslin (no bat)and plan to make stuffed animals from it for a boutique--will post pictures once I get this done. |

I made a Blue Jean rag quilt out of my wranglers after I lost weight. It turned out better than I though it would. I also cut up my polar fleece pajamas that were too big and put them as batting in a different Flannel rag quilt for my hubby.

Justflyingin and Ijustwant2sew really enjoyed your photos of all your recycled fabrics quilts. I have bought jeans from the Op Shop and made a quilt for my father-in-law for his 80th and am currently making my husband a t-shirt quilt from all his old grand prix tshirts. The jeans quilt turned out well but no pic as was in such a rush to finish that I forgot!
