I've done a series of quilts made from repurposing things. I have a reason for doing it, and that is to prove that you CAN make nice things in spite of not having a LQS or even a Walmart around you. Everything except the batting in these quilts is made from upcycling. They are duvet covers, pjs, men's shirts, ladies' shirts, curtains, sheets, pillowcases, dresses, etc.

I'm not showing the backs, but they are all upcycled fabrics as well.

and then I made 3 last fall from the same set of fabrics:

My layout. The first one - was a block taken from Pat Sloan's mystery quilt.

The challenge for me, is, that I live in a country where we have no quilt shops and hardly any cotton fabric at the local stores. That leaves me the choice of buying on line or bringing it from the states when I visit, or "making do" with repurposing fabrics. I chose to make some this way as a challenge to myself but also to show that it can be done.

The talent you have is so inspiring. Love what you do "with out"
peace

Old flannel pjs & sheets become the fuzzy top for changing pads (which is what I use to practice new FMQ designs).

I am very slowly working on a string crazy quilt with scraps I have (pieced to muslin I had leftover from lining curtains).

You guys are my heroes! I hope someday to become a little bit like you!

My first up-cycled quilt is in its first stages of development: I'm using the denim fabric from an irregularly faded duvet cover to make a rag quilt. Alas, I'm using purchased flannel (Maywood Woolies) for the other side. I'll post a photo when there's something to show.

What glorious quilts! I strongly encourage you to post them to the following here on the QB:
Scrappy Quilt show - Right Here!! :) This audience will deeply appreciate seeing them!

Beautiful quilts. I do try to use all my "leftovers" but have not used shirts or clothing from goodwill. My DH wears all sorts of cotton plaid shirts...so maybe there will be a plaid quilt in my future!

Your quilts are beautiful and extra special....I would be more than proud to own one. Thank you for sharing with us what can be done when we set our minds to it.

When I started quilting in earnest years ago I recycled everyone's old blankets by using them as batting. I have used old top sheets after the bottom ones get holes for backing on scrap quilts. Made some t-shirt quilts recently.

I won't repeat the pictures here, but Justaflyin has some beautiful quilts. I especially love the setting triangles in all the bright colors in the Autumn quilts. I don't think I have ever seen that before and I love it. Usually you see setting triangles in a background color or neutral.

I love all the other scrap quilts, too. Most of my quilts are made of scraps. If I buy any fabric, it comes from JoAnn's sale bin.
