What is your fav two color quilt pattern?

DS has requested a quilt w/red and tan...just a tad scrappy. What is your fav pattern? This w/b queen size and really want a realtive easy pattern. Life always too stressful to worry about a quilt project!

Wyldwytch 02-14-2013 12:14 PM

I have to say it would be black with a bright batik or ivory with a deep blue but not navy blue. I know a little weird...lol

I googled red and tan quilt patterns and I thought this one was really nice, and it is just a string quilt done with the 2 colours
http://stringthingchallenge.blogspot.com.au/

Bother, that link doesn't take you directly to the picture, :( you will need to scroll down to almost the bottom of the page and the quilt I am taking about is call red, black and tan

Lori S 02-14-2013 12:19 PM

I have a pattern called "Irish Lace" it is perfect for two color quilts. Its similar to Irish chain. Lots of block arraingement choices.

AlienQuilter 02-14-2013 12:47 PM

I just googled two colored quilts: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...mg.XqcIqD-loc4

I will tell you right now that Delectable Mountains is a very easy pattern. You take a half square triangle and slice it up and sew it back together. Easy Peasy.

Bonnie calls it scrappy mountain majesties.

Here's a pretty one:

I can't help you but I'm following closely as I've never made a 2 color quilt!

quilter2theend 02-14-2013 01:10 PM

What about a double Irish Chain, I have a book with 2 color quilts in it, it looks fairly simple.

Hunter's star ... it can be 2 colors, or more. Free pattern at Quilter's Cache:

I haven't made it yet, but I really like the quilt on the cover of this book by Nicole Chambers. I've seen it made up in black and white prints - gorgeous!

I have one that alternates between rail fence blocks and 9 patch, all set on point. You wouldn't need a pattern at all. Let me see if I can find a picture of it.

2 color plus neutral? Carpenter's wheel
1 color plus a neutral for 2? Annie's choice---------of course!

JenniePenny 02-14-2013 02:18 PM

Try the Ocean Waves block. It is perfect for two color quilts. In each block, use one red and one tan fabric. As you continue with the blocks, put a different shade of tan and/or red in each.

I'm trying to post a picture of one I "saved for future". I don't remember where I found it, and it may even have come from this board. I love the quilt and am saving fabrics for it right now! Thanks to whoever posted this picture!

I'm doing a Jacobs ladder right now for a swap in two colors. Really, really like it.

Julie in NM 02-14-2013 06:16 PM

Dunster...really like that quilt a lot and looks easy too!

Julie in NM 02-14-2013 06:20 PM

Dina, love, love, love your quilt! Oh my! Now another one I just have to make!

quiltin-nannie 02-14-2013 06:33 PM

OK kids. How the heck do you get the little "quote" box?

Barb_MO 02-14-2013 06:47 PM

How about a log cabin? could be scrappy red on one side and one fabric tan on the other, or even scrappy tan.

Just press "Reply with Quote" at the bottom of the post that you want to quote. Type your post outside the square brackets.

Thank you so much...just too easy!

Annaquilts 02-14-2013 07:57 PM

I agree with the Bonnie Hunt one
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2005/...majesties.html
Just besure to press all seams open. It will help you tremendously.

Julie in NM 02-15-2013 04:04 AM

I think Bonnie Hunter's quilit just may win. Not sure tho...have to finish this scrappy quilt first and then start his. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I really appreciate it.

GailG 02-15-2013 04:09 AM

I like monochromatic combos like maroon/pink, navy/lt. blue, black/gray, etc. Unfortunately they are still on my bucket list. Other things come up and push them to the back burner.

nycquilter 02-15-2013 04:12 AM

I've done several snail trail quilts in two colors (sorry, no pics). One was my DD's school color--purple. I used lights, mediums and darks. It is interesting how in some squares the medium is dark and in others, it is light. The other quilt was for my then-boyfriend (now DH) and done in blues. I paper-pieced each block and used a 6" block.

There are a lot of great looking quilts on that site. I really like the red and white heart quilt.

Ethel Hoffman 02-15-2013 05:16 AM

I have probably made 8 or ten Winner's circles with just two colors. Sometimes I have added the third color in border but still made the blocks just two colors. goes fast. Just 20 blocks and than your borders I extended the borders to finish either queen or even king size.

I have a whole book on two-color quilts. It shows blue and white on the cover, but of course you are not limited to that. I got it years ago; it's a 9x12 paperback. It's Quick Method Classic Blue Quilts by Leisure Arts Inc., date 1997.

#1piecemaker 02-15-2013 05:29 AM

Drunkard path is a good two color pattern. there are so many variations.

GammaLou 02-15-2013 06:07 AM

I just love Ohio Star. It looks great in any two colors. I used scrappy red and plain white muslin. Would look great in red and tan also.

Lara122 02-15-2013 06:19 AM

A Kaleidoscope looks good in two colors. Wish I could put my picture here (dial up). But, I asked for quilting help under "kaleidoscope Stuck". I am *almost* thru hand binding it, and will post a final picture then. I was pleasantly surprised at how much it was liked. I had felt like it was 'blah'. Thanks again for that, ladies!! =))

A combo of 9 square and snowball! Super easy!

charsuewilson 02-15-2013 08:06 AM

9 patch (D9P) and drunkards path immediately come to mind. Snowball, maple leaf, storm at sea.

Around the world could be done in different shades of 2 colors, or a bargello. Lots of blocks on quilters cache are shown in 2 colors incl. bear paw.

There's Bonnie Hunter's boxy stars.

Thanks dunster for explaining this. I tried it before but couldn't figure it out. I've got it now.

I would ask more closely what he wants. When my son asked for a black and white quilt. he really meant B&W with touches of red. These are 2 versions of a simple ALMOST 2 color pattern I made for someone else. It is really easy, being made with one partial seam.

luvstoquilt 02-15-2013 12:57 PM

I recently finished "Ohio Star" in red and white...I love it...it is at the LAQ now and I can't wait to get it home!!!!

hessevic 02-15-2013 01:55 PM

Made a reds and tans/off whites
scrappy paper pieced "Pineapple" that is stunning. All fabric was from my scrap stash.
