To me, this would be the right time to work on embellishing Crazy Quilt blocks, maybe do hand applique, binding, cutting out a pattern, embroidery, crochet.

I'm with so many others in claiming hexies as my go to portable project. Started this one July 2008 and some year it will be finished:)

Applique

I always have an applique project ready to go. If you don't applique, now is the time to try your hand at it. Find a pattern or book, have your pieces traced out and ready to transfer to your fabrics or have your pieces pinned to the background. Take your matching threads in a bag along with your scissors, pin cushion, thimble and the background. This also comes in handy when you have to go for an appointment. You can sit and applique while you are waiting. I get a lot of blocks done using this portable idea. In fact, I got really enthused (sp?) and made a small carrying case or holder just for this purpose.

If the lighting is good, I take my redwork embroidery project I am working on, or something that needs the binding sewn. I don't like to haul my machine to the store either.

I usually work on an applique block. Some folks work on knitting or crochet, also. It is a great time to lay out quilts, and to cut them out. We are lucky that our meeting 1X a week is in our LQS.

Redwork. I always have some simple embroidered red work blocks on the go. One colour of thread and designs traced on muslin beforehand. Handy to take these traveling as well
