What Is Your Favorite Scrap Quilt Pattern?

1 Attachment(s)
I'm not normally a huge scrap quilt fan, but I do like them now and then. I made one scrappy quilt before, pictured below, but I haven't ventured into it, since. I think I need to make a few, though. I've been throwing all of my scraps into a tote bin for a while, now, but it's needing to be emptied. So, what are some of your favorite patterns for scrap quilts? I know about log cabins and crazy quilts, but are there any other ones?

sweet love it....anything that uses fabric I love

I love this one, http://www.quiltingboard.com/attachm...en_pattern.pdf , which I have posted a link to download the pattern for as it is just so wacky :)

But the other lovely scrap quilts I like are from Bonnie Hunters site, her Crayon box is so easy and such fun: http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/200...rayon-box.html

But my all time favourite has to be this one, another of Bonnie's patterns: http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/200...oxy-stars.html

I love reds and tans. That is one beautiful quilt!

Fraew 12-19-2012 05:36 PM

Love your scrappy! Wow! Bonnie Hunter has some fabulous ideas for scraps.

dunster 12-19-2012 05:39 PM

I love your quilt - would call it a very controlled scrappy sampler. I usually make very UNcontrolled scrappies, the last one here - http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...d-t207658.html - but usually I make log cabins with the scraps. I'm trying to branch out and make other patterns too and have been going through books and web sites looking for the next one to make.

Beautiful quilts! I've made 3 scrap quilts using Eleanor Burns "Summer Porch" Pastel scraps for my summer topper, golds, reds, and greens for the fall topper, and reds and greens for the Christmas topper, now one for spring.

Great links here....bookmarking this!!!

Quiltville is a good place to start when looking for scrap quilts. I am doing the Spiderweb from Bonnie's site. My next scrap quilt I think will be "That Thirties Thing" that someone posted a picture of. It was from a free pattern at Quilter's cache-quilt blocks galore I think.

leatheflea 12-20-2012 03:54 AM

Wow great scrap quilt! No advice on a pattern. I think you can take any pattern and make it scrappy.

sandy l 12-20-2012 04:25 AM

I've done other scrap quilt patterns, but I allways seem to come back to the log cabin.

Beck55 12-20-2012 04:30 AM

I love your quilt, love reds. Besides log cabin I like court house steps and also an hour glass quilt.

HillCountryGal 12-20-2012 05:04 AM

Really like the snowball quilt pattern. Easy.

Cherylsea 12-20-2012 05:05 AM

If you go to the Picture Archive on this board there is a section of Scrappy Quilts - should get a few ideas. Or try Google or Pinterest...

Chicca 12-20-2012 07:18 AM

I really like the Double Irish Chain quit pattern done in a controlled scrappy fashion. Another one is the snowball block...really, almost any quilt pattern can be turned scrappy! Your quilt is fabulous! Have a great time creating your next quilt!

echoemb 12-20-2012 08:01 AM

I just went thru my 2.5" square last night and I'm getting ready to do the scrapaholic quilt. I love anything stringy from Bonnie Hunter. I LOVE scrap quilts and that is pretty much the only thing I make anymore.

Beautiful!!! Love all the reds. I like snowball combined with 9-patch....simple yet striking.

This is a sort of log cabin but much more relaxed http://quiltville.blogspot.co.uk/200...rayon-box.html

I have made quite a few for Project Linus :

Mariposa 12-20-2012 06:27 PM

Terrific scrappy! I do love pinwheels myself. Quiltville has lots of great patterns also.

justflyingin 12-20-2012 11:01 PM

Your reds and tans quilt is beautiful. I probably wouldn't have even called it scrappy. :)

I've used Sunny Lanes from Quilter's cache and several other patterns. Just check out the scrappy quilts thread here.

quilttiger 12-21-2012 04:16 AM

Love the quilt in the first post....gorgeous. Another good web site to check out is MaryQuilts.com. The patterns are free for downloading and they are great for scraps, too. I love Quiltville.com as well. I've used a few of the patterns for Quilts of Valor.

Dodie 12-21-2012 04:34 AM

I love all scrappy quilts with my favorite being a controled sampler

ayellowrose 12-21-2012 04:39 AM

I love the "Sunny Lanes" pattern.

karenpatrick 12-21-2012 04:53 AM

About any pattern can be made scrappy. Not all but most. My favorite one to make is a scrappy log pattern. Great way to use up scraps.

MargeD 12-21-2012 06:24 AM

I think that's a beautiful scrap quilt. Sometimes I have trouble trying to be too matchy matchy, but I'm getting better. I make a family reunion quilt every 2 years, and although I pick a color, I have to use what I'm sent, so it winds up being a scrappy quilt, but it teaches me to go beyond my comfort zone. It's nice to step out of the box once in a while.

maviskw 12-21-2012 06:29 AM

I have done several quilts like this with a variety of blocks. The last three I put a "frame" around each block in a color that coordinates with the block, and then put the sashing between. Each block looks like a quilt in itself. I named one "Quilt Show".

jbj137 12-21-2012 06:34 AM

That is a very pretty quilt.
Make another like it.

In my opinion, the single, double or triple Irish Chains are the best ever. I am working on a triple Iriah Chain with the white blocks being embroidered with Sunbonnet Sue--really special for a granddaughter.

justme CA 12-21-2012 09:33 AM

My favorite is the Depression Block which uses half square triangles each light and dark of any fabrics. i made one and it was pleasing to me. I got the block on line and it's easy and certainly uses up scraps.

squires1042 12-21-2012 09:59 AM

Any quilt can become a scrappy, but we use the string, nine patch variations for a lot of our charity quilts. My favorite though is to take a bin of squares, at least 2 1/2 inches in size and just start sewing them together. The only time I allow myself to color match is if the two squares that i am sewing togther are the same color. I start with twos that become fours, that become 8's to 16's, then I start putting the squares together. I have also used a panel that has several various size blocks in it that I cut apart and added borders to make them divideable with the size squares that I have used and placed them randomly in the quilt.

I like Arkansas Crossroads.

Oh my!! Red is my favorite color. I love your sampler!! Journey to Arkansas seems to be my favorite scrappy quilt

Betty Ruth 12-21-2012 05:43 PM

My favorite scrap quilts are the most simple, 4 patch, double 4 patch, 9 patch and double 9 patch. Sunshine and shadows is another easy scrap quiit, if you can cut your scraps into strips, just sew the strips diagonally across a foundation with the light strips on one side and the dark strips on the other side.

sewdamncute 12-21-2012 06:53 PM

I love scrappys...you can do most patterns

Is there a pattern for this beautiful quilt? I have some scraps I could use for it!

sewingsuz 11-11-2014 05:58 PM

Your quilt is very pretty and certainly a lot of work.

Vicki1212 11-11-2014 09:49 PM

LOVE the colour combination! There's so much to see in this quilt, well done!
