What Your Quilts Say About You
I was thinking about the patterns that I like the most. Boxed Squares, Log Cabin, Trip Around the World. I believe that these patterns say that I am (or want to be) well ordered. I have never done a crazy quilt, and even when I do a scrappy quilt, I must keep some kind of order. I make sure that certain colors are near certain other ones. I cannot just throw stuff together.
Do the patterns or colors that you pick say anything about you? |
Mine say I'm pretty square. However, I have made some crazy quilt vests that are extraordinarily pretty. Each usesdefinite colors--pink, brown, blue, etc. froggyintexas

a lot of mine say that I love color and chaos.
Boston, my quilts say the same thing about me that yours say about you. I like order in my environment and therefore in my quilts too. The idea of pulling scraps out of a bag sight unseen and sewing them into the next space makes me crazy. Just my own personal weakness. :)
I think it was growing up in a large family, having four kids of my own and running a large company that made (and makes) me feel like I never quite have the control over my environment that I would like since there are too many moving parts. I try to make up for in my quilting, I guess. |
mine say that i am traditional and ordered.
I, too, am ordered, but most of my quilts are of soft/comfort fabrics (especially flannel), so I guess that says something as well.:)
Mine are very traditional, scrappy makes my eyes go crazy, upsets my balance....I like thing balanced, and organized. I particularly like it when the blocks make another pattern within the quilt. I can go with a wide color palate.

Mine say that i have a lot of skills to learn! Jo in NC

Mine may say that I really like balance, and a good amount of organization. I have "learned" to like scrappy quilts- and mine are controlled scrappy. But I do say that I love samplers that have all kinds of sizes of blocks! They are a fun challenge to make!
I like bright colors, or softer ones, but not muddy or drab. And love large florals too! |

Mine say I like to try new things. I am always looking at quilt designs and deciding what to do next. I don't like the unknown so I would only do a mystery quilt after the mystery was over.
Mine say well rounded
Mine say that I dance to my own drummer.. I have never used a pattern that I didn't design. I love chaos.
Mine tell me I'm not afraid to experiment with all kinds of fabric but in a traditional sort of way.
Like Murphy 1 I am always looking for new things to try. I love the traditional quilts but I can sometimes see a picture in fabric and have to do a garden or landscape wall hanging. Or little girls all dressed up in settings. About the only thing I haven't tried is the very modern quilts but DD wants one so I guess that is a project for the new year.
I prefer quilts to be or balanced and symmetrical. What does it mean when you do run of different quilt and realise they are all straight rows, strips I had no idea I had made about 6 different ones including a bag.

well i haven't made many quilts yet. I'm on my 2nd which is a crazy quilt but only certain colors. I tend to go towards the neutral and darker colors. darker bklues, greens burgundys and darker reds, browns beiges tans. Don't like yellow or orange or lime greens. Am not sure what this says about me lol.
I am more of a free spirit - I love bright colors. I have done jelly roll, scrappy, modern, some from a pattern (with at least one change so it is mine), lots of blocks just to see if I like the process, strip quilts (love these), memorial quilt with ties and shirts, my DS's quilt with recycled shirts, ........
I have a very short attention span.... |
What a fun subject! I guess I am with you. Control and orderly.
I hate being told what to do - I guess that's why I've very seldom used a pattern. But, I can't quite get into doing a scrappy quilt. Crazy quilts - I love, but they are orderly to me. Oh Lord, there it is again - I'm extremes! I don't seem to have a moderate "speed" or energy. I think for a new years resolution I will make a scrappy quilt of some type. Just cut 2.5 inch blocks and put them all in a bag and stitch them as they come out. This should either cure me or send me to the loony bin :)
Mine say, "Boy you are not afraid of color!"
Mine say that I'm good at starting and bad at finishing - based on the stack of UFOs. As for the patterns, I like symmetry.
Mine say traditional and organized. I like scrappy quilts but they must be controlled scrappy. Chaos drives me nuts.
Mine says I have a lot to learn. Given what I'm working on right now and what I plan next I'm sort of a controlled scrappy/ limited palette sort. I like all quilts but don't think I'm good enough with colors to do a real scrappy quilt and have it look right. The next quilt I do will be a flannel single Irish chain on the front using cut up shirts for the color blocks and a solid flannel for the field. The back is going to be Wagga inspired with different sized patches of flannel intermingled-not following any pattern, just sewing it together until it's big enough.

Mine say I have trouble making up my mind. They also shout how slow I am. :o
Except for three Lone Stars made many years ago, all my quilts have been made with different methods, styles, color ways, fabrics, etc. The ones I have in my head are all different, too. Do they say I yearn for novelty?
What my quilts say? My quilts say "I think enough of you to put all this work into giving you a 'permanent hug' and I love you."
Oops! Read that wrong-My quilts show that I am happiest with lots of color, and using traditional patterns in nontraditional ways. My friends call my quilts fun and funky. |
What a lot of wonderful answers! I think it's kind of fun to see what your work says. I'm glad I brought it up.
Mine say I like nature (earth tones) and organization. I like lots of "white space" with geometric shapes. My quilting says I have no artistic talent or imagination. Haha
Mine say, according to my sister, that I need to step away from the dark side and go towards the light
Mine says I am non-traditional but organized. They also say I like to do the whole job, from fabric selection to quilting and binding. They also say I don't do hand-work

Mine would say eclectic care free and not focused. I like just about every thing except primary colors. I will put any fabrics together with abandon and just see what happens. Thirty prints will go right next to a batik, next to a cabbage rose print, next to a plaid and for good measure I will always try to throw in some of my beloved polka dots.:D

I guess mine say that I like order, symmetry and detail. I love applique but everything has to be balanced. They also say that I am frugal as all of my fabrics have been purchased on clearance or Ebay.
Mine say I like traditional, orderly, with warm earth tones.
Traditional and no curved lines. Although I did make a double wedding ring and it'll be my one and only with curves.
Im easy! Lol. Im still pretty new so nothing complicated yet! Not brave enough!!
Mine say I need a whole lot more practice:eek:. I'm guessing that means a lot more quilts:D
Mine say that for the most part, I am traditional and well ordered. However, there is this part of me that can go wild with scraps, or foundation piece fabrics I'm just pulling out of my scrap box, and make new fabric, and then make a quilt out of it. It's fun to do! But I could never do all one or the other; it would get boring.
I'm a scrappy, put everything in a bag, pull it out and sew it together. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't:o. So I guess I fall in the un-organized slot.
