I cut my binding strips 2 1/2" wide, then press in half.

3" folded in half for me.

I usually use 2 1/2 inches.

I always use 2-3/4" and sew a 3/8" seam, turn to to back and hand stitch. Just what I like.

jcrow - I picture what you are saying is creating almost an "unstuffed" piping. The ideas seems neat!! I am new at this stuff but you definitely have me thinking. Thanks for your idea.

I also do it this way. However, on my "Bricks" quilt, I used leftover bricks which were orginally cut at 3 inches to make a scrappy binding. Just my opinion, but I think it turned out great.

Im curious .. to those who machine sew to front/back, pull to other side and stitch in the ditch- what size binding do you use and like... 2 1/4, 2 1/2, 2 ??

I like a tight, full binding, so I use 2 1/4--even when I put it on my machine, I have enough to fold over.

babyboomerquilter 03-15-2012 04:07 PM

I do 21/2 inches.

I use 3 inches even 3 1/4 sometimes, I like the way it frames the back also.

2 1/2 works great for me too.
