What's the best way to use a cone of thread?

I've ordered some thread on a cone for the very first time. My machine (Janome Magnolia 7330) does not have a way to use a cone & I know others have rigged up things on their machines to handle cones. I would love to hear how you deal with cones & most of all would really like to see pictures as to what method you use to sew with cones if you machine is not equipped for them. Thanks!

Buy a cone stand. Available in most sewing stores. JoAnn's has them in their notions dept.

This is what I've done. When I quilted my string quilt, I used a cone. My Juki is set up to pull the thread from up above but I had a bit of trouble with this cone at first. The thread would slip down and under the cone and, of course, cause problems. I solved them by taking on of the nets that Spec's gives you with wine bottles and put it over the cone running the end of the thread up and out the top. Worked like a charm! Now I just have to see if I have any more of those nets. Since I've found a use for them I don't want to throw them out. I don't buy enough wine since our dinner group fell apart to buy more than one bottle of wine at a time now.

I also bought a cone stand. Superior has a good price on one. https://www.superiorthreads.com/thread-stand-metal

Get a good quality one. Heavy and solid. Nothing worse then a flimsy thread holder. I have been given several wooden ones and they are aggravating to use. I like the Superior one and the one from Connecting Threads.

I use a thread stand as shown by Dunster too. I hot glued some felt on the bottom to cushion it. You could also use cabinet cushion cut to size.

Don't put it behind the machine where it can get tangled in the hand wheel. It happened to someone at our LQS and was a mess.

I’ve never used a cone either. My quilting teacher used a coffee mug to hold it upright. Is there a reason not to?

Cone thread holders are worth the money but mine was free. My son had lots of scrap wood around so he made this for me.

I have this in the trunk of my car in case I forget a cone holder when going away to sew. I cut a hole in the side of a large pop bottle big enough to put the cone through. The cone sites on the bottom of the bottle and the thread is put up through the hole which acts as a top thread guide.
