The largest I did was 104" x 104" with small free motion motifs in small blocks and then around the larger block borders. I did longer free motion cables in the borders all on an older Elna with a 6 1/2 " harp. Just be sure to breathe while you stitch. Good luck with whatever you decide.

First quilt I ever did was 120 x 120 and I stitched kinda in the ditch. I was so new at qulting and didn't know that it would be hard. :)

I quilted all large quilts in sections, until I ran into one that couldn't be done in sections. It was 93 x 104. I used the John Flynn frame (for the first and only time) to baste it with water soluble thread, then I was able to quilt it (fairly dense FMQ) on my Bernina. After that I got a longarm. I never want to tackle something that large on my DSM again. I know that many people are able to do beautiful quilting that way, and I admire their skill.

Have you considered quilting your quilt in sections?

Mine largest was 120x120 and I cussed most of the time as I, too, simply stitched in the ditch. Way too much fabric to move through the gap between the needle and the rest of the machine, no matter how I gathered it. I am proud of having finished it. Won't do it again, though, and can't think of any suggestions for you - sorry.

Iam working on one with 14" squares right now that I need to have come in at about 114. Here is what I plan to do. THere are 6 squares across and down, which gets me up to 84, I plan to add an inner border of 4 to 5 inches, uncut yet, and the outer border, of 10 1/4" squares turned on point, all also done. I plan to piece the back in 3 pieces and quilt as you go 3 sets of 28, plus 2" on the center cut, and 2 cuts of 28" plus 2 inches, plus the width of the inner border, I am fighring out the lengths of the cuts at 84 plus, 10, plus 2. I will add the final border onto this quilted top, after it is quilted. This way I can handle 28 to 30 inch strips and not be limited by the type of quilting I plan to do. I figure this uses a little more back fabric, but the scraps will go into another scrappy quilt. I can't qult on large projects due to some disc issues in my neck, but QAYG works for me if I take the time to figure it all out ahead of time. :-D

I love the quilt on your site. Simple, but elegant!

I have made a few 120 x 120 quilts for king size beds (or for a queen to hang all the way to the floor). 120" is the widest I can quilt on my 12 foot long arm frame, but I could make it longer too like 130" to go to the foot of the bed.

I don't know how you can move that much quilt trough a regular sewing machine. I did one for a friend that was bigger than I have felt comfortable with but it did turn out
fine, I haven been able to start another project because
it was so stressful.(That was in Feb) I have only been quilting for a couple of years and I like doing throws and kids quilts I have alot more to learn

I am making a queen size storm at sea and would love to see your pictures.
