I have realized that what I am missing are solids and small tone on tones. I just came to this realization yesterday when I decided that I was going to try and make a quilt entirely from stash. I have a lot of stash- not as much as many of you but enough- so I thought - why don't I have solids and tone on tones? And I concluded that it's because "they aren't fun to buy". So, I'm going to force myself to concentrate on adding these items to my stash. What about you?

lovingmama 05-31-2011 08:10 AM

Money!

cctx. 05-31-2011 08:13 AM

Money is right, and a Long Arm machine.

fuail 05-31-2011 08:14 AM

Time, money, and yellows - I really don't like yellows, but I need them for balance!

Scissor Queen 05-31-2011 08:15 AM

I don't buy solids and I don't buy blue unless it's for sky or water. I also don't buy any reproduction fabrics from any era. I don't consider these things missing though.

dltaylor 05-31-2011 08:15 AM

I hear ya, money is definately missing in my stash!!

I dont have a lot of tone on tone or solids either. But I don't really feel the need to add them. There are too many shades of colors. I find that I like big prints. And just prints in general :) So when I want a tone on tone to go with it I would rather buy however much I need of exactly the right color. With my like I would buy 10 shades of green and when I went to make something from my stash, I still wouldn't have the right shade of green. For me it works to just buy them as I go.

erstan947 05-31-2011 08:24 AM

What is missing I buy as needed. I don't see any need in stockpiling colors or styles that I don't care for. If I need them I buy for the quilt. Works for me:)

katier825 05-31-2011 08:26 AM

What's missing? The ONE fabric I need in the correct amount...especially after hours!

Seriously, whites, creams, oranges & purples.

pnptrapp 05-31-2011 08:26 AM

I'm missing pink (my least favorite color, but unfortunely two of my sisters favorites!) and whites and light tans. I seem to use them up when I do find them!

SherriB 05-31-2011 08:32 AM

Probably solid colors and tone-on-tone fabrics. I don't buy them unless I need them. I am afraid if I needed more, it would be hard to find the matching color.

dixiechunk 05-31-2011 08:39 AM

Florals. I'm not much into florals.

JanetM 05-31-2011 08:39 AM

I found that I had done the same thing, so everytime I attempted to just shop my stash, I still had to go to the LQS for blender fabrics.

In the last few months I have purchased some blender fabrics that have made it easier to find everything I need in my stash.

I particularly like Robert Kaufman's Fusion fabrics. Here is a link...scroll down the page to see the many colors.

I need more reds and dark browns. I don't use solids so I don't really have any of those.

Me three! Great minds think alike!

MadQuilter 05-31-2011 09:33 AM

White on white and baby-color pastels which is what I need for the latest round robin. YEAH! Fabric shopping....

Mary M 05-31-2011 10:02 AM

I am missing some pretty, soft pinks and blenders. I tend to buy only when fabric is on sale and so I have to remember at times to get some nuetrals. I have been tryingto use just from what I have but very often it just doesn't work.

huntannette 05-31-2011 11:16 AM

ha ha ha!!! ditto!! money and yellows, as well as white on whites

with my luck, just about the time I start adding the solids and tone on tones, they will be the wrong tones and I will end up buying more. I usually wait to buy these until I have my main fabric(s) picked out.

caliquocat 05-31-2011 01:10 PM

I need a 'white' that is thick enough so colors & prints don't show through.

sueisallaboutquilts 05-31-2011 03:05 PM

I agree that whites and neutrals don't seem to be as much "fun to buy" but I really need them too.
Other prints etc seem to jump out at me more.
I recently found a number of neutrals when I cleaned my sewing room. Finally I know what I have LOL

GrammaO 05-31-2011 03:07 PM

Blenders and other fabric that 'read' as solid. I'm way more attracted to patterned fabric.

CompulsiveQuilter 05-31-2011 05:38 PM

I am the opposite. I have ONLY blender fabrics, small prints and tone-on-tones. Honestly they are the only thing that really, really appeal to me. I can't do floral or anything with large prints. I have to buy a focus fabric everytime, and get really nervous doing so. I wish one of you guys could wave a magic wand and get me out of the box I'm in.

Twisted Quilter 05-31-2011 05:54 PM

What's missing in my stash? Everything I need on any project I'm working on. My stash seems to be useless unless I'm working on a scrap quilt.

deedum 05-31-2011 06:10 PM

I agree, missing the same, no fun buying the solids as much. Trying to do better.

Only thing missing is more Fushions 5573! Have a few, but I have been wanting many of the other colors available. Problem is, I won't pay over 7.00 a yd for them and am having a hard time finding them for less. Looking for 2 yards of each, so that adds up fast. The money is saved for that day I can find it for what I am willing to pay for it.

Linda71 05-31-2011 08:32 PM

Lots

IAmCatOwned 05-31-2011 08:54 PM

Background fabrics. No matter what project it is, I just never have a good background fabric (or enough of it). I do have solids for applique. Bought a bunch of 5 inch squares with all sorts of solids (sampler, I think) and it's been a perfect supplement.

gzuslivz 05-31-2011 09:23 PM

What's missing in my stash is organization! I'm working on it, but it's a long process.

Pickles 05-31-2011 09:27 PM

Most everything as well as money to get them with.lol

Charming 05-31-2011 09:27 PM

I totally agree with you. I have been shopping for tone on tone because i like the quality of the fabric more than solids for some reason solids are not soft, but then last minute i get distracted with other beautiful fabrics and go off track. Now i need to buy bolts of that because they are always needed incorporated in quilts somehow.

Joanie2 05-31-2011 09:44 PM

I would say the one thing I'm missing is large scale prints.
Also missing grey. Hope to fix that at Fabric Depot in July.

jitkaau 06-01-2011 02:52 AM

Ditto.

redmadder 06-01-2011 02:58 AM

Backgrounds and neutrals. Funny, I buy them all the time. Guess they just get used up so fast.

anicra 06-01-2011 03:20 AM

TIME!!! The fabric - I have lots. Time - not so much.

Janetlmt 06-01-2011 03:25 AM

I wish I had more time to sew. I have way to much fabric..so that is no excuse. Today is a me day...
