OH, how did you do that?

I gave a friend a quilt. She was speechless and started crying, gave me a big hug and whispered, "Thank you". It was what she didn't say that was the nicest thing.

I was told after giving a quilt as a Christmas gift that they would always have "sweet dreams" if snuggled under it.

It is the usaid, I gave my dad a quilt for his bithday in March he only uses it if I bug him but he shows it to everyone that comes over, He is disabled and gets lots of company. Everyone that sees it compliments me on how that was the greatest thing I could have done for him. It sits folded on the coffee table for the most part!

I made a baby quilt, and asked for some info....not so much "what color do you like" but more like, what kind of feeling do you want it to have, and some other things. When I sent it, it was a surprise (she hadn't seen a pic yet) and she was wowed when she opened the package, but then weeks later she went out of her way to tell me that "it was just what I wanted, I just didn't know it yet!" And I knew what she meant. I asked the right questions, and hit the nail on the head!

1. when a grown man i know nearly broke out in tears when i gave him a quilt i'd made.

2. my very good friend promised me that there would be no way in you-know-where she'd part with hers in a divorce settlement. (luckily that is not at all likely to be an issue. after 15 years they are still as goofy as newlyweds. :lol: )

3. my father uses the lap/napper i made him to decorate his bed. he has it spread all the way out so the whole thing shows.

i made quilts for our closest friends 2 boys and when either of them aren't feeling well these are the blankets they ask for.

I had one that I had put corner squares and in each one I quilted the outline of an acorn. (it was a fall quilt). I took it to my little group and showed them. Saunda hit me in the head with a magazine, and my sister called me a poophead. I smiled. What they were really saying is that my stitches looked really good and it came out very well, even better than they could do themselves.

I gave a quilt to my friend's son when he graduated from high school. I saw him visiting his mom at work one afternoon a couple of months later and he told me he couldn't study without it...it felt like a hug from home.

"Did you MAKE this?" Like there was no way possible I could have made something so lovely. (:

I made my dad quilt for Christmas and he kept it in the car for the first month showing it off where ever he went.

A quilt as a wedding gift to my niece last month. She wrote, it's one of my favourite gifts ever. I appreciate the time, work and love that you put into it.

I think the tears that my grown niece and nephew cried when I gave them their quilts was more than any words could express.

"She never puts it down!" about a quilt I made for my granddaughter. :)

A young couple that got a quilt from me as a wedding gift has told me and on separate occasions my daughters that their quilt was the their favorite wedding gift (and it was a big wedding)

My nephew was just here for the 4th, he's now 15 and I gave him his quilt about 3 years ago, he brought it with him and told me that he just loves his quilt and sleeps with it every night and that's why he brought it down with him cause he didn't want to go without! He gave me a huge hug when he told me this!!!

I made a quilt using a panel for my great-nephew. His mom said she was going to hang it up in his room, and she did. I was really touched by that.

Although I object to the sentiment behind the remarks, I had a child's quilt that I made for our guild's Philanthropy project. I'd hand embroidered Sunbonnet Sue squares on it, with every Sue a different skin tone. One of the members looked at it and said "It's way too nice and well done to give it to charity. You should keep it or sell it because it's beautiful." I scolded her and said that the recipients at the women's shelter are exactly the kind of people who need something nice. I still picture a delighted little girl getting that quilt and loving it.

Made a quilt for my BIL's 70th B-day. He is not demonstrative when receiving gifts, but he hug me real tight and got all choked up...and said, " I can't believe you did this for me.."

# Made a quilt for my daughter-in-law, tears in her eyes and hugging me all she could say was "I love you". She didn't have to say or do anything else.
# Son came to visit and saw a baby quilt in pinks with teddy bears I'd made (they don't have children). He said 'I don't care what anyone says Ma, but I love that quilt, don't you ever give it away' Needless to say he and wife went home with that and 3 other quilts all of which they display or use along with the original I had made for his wife.

I gave my nephew a quilt for his 4th bday back in February. Never heard from his parents, but my mil tells me his sister is real jealous and tries to take it away from him all the time. He can't sleep without it. So for her bday last month I sent one to her. I was told she thought it was the best gift ever. Now she won't have to be jealous of her brother's! I love the fact that they love them so much!

I moved my sewing area into the sunroom where my husband's recliner and T.V. is. Translation: We are in the same area when I am creating. He watched me build the jelly roll. He showed lots of interest. He watched me seam the strips. Very interested. When I made the sandwich he said "I really like that quilt. It reminds me of the ones my mom and those ladies made. They would go to each others house and make quilts while the kids were in school."

I made my mom a Rose of Sharon, all hand appliqued and quilted. Couldn't wait to open pkg. She was soooo excited, I can't believe all those teeny tiny stitches. OML! :lol:

I was told that my quilts can cure cancer. I made quilts on two different occasions for friends with the cancer diagnosis, and shortly after they both were cancer free. Justin still is, and about to start medical school. My friend Brian died, but he then said that the cancer came back because he stopped sleeping under the quilt. He was buried with the quilt. I couldn't stand to see it. He was only 39 years old.

When we went on vacation and unpacked at the cabin one of DD suitcases had her queen size quilt in it. She told me she can't sleep without it. I'm glad she loves it so much.

Yeah I get that a lot :lol: :lol:

The nicest thing is when they find out that it was made on a 100 year old machine and the look you get when they are holding a piece of living history.

My son was blown away when he saw my first quilt and always asks to see what I'm doing... finally, he says, I have time to be an artist after being a hard working single mom.

one of my students called me a saint! she said because she thinks i always try to do what I think is best for everyone and I give good advice! My life is now complete because of that child. lol

OH MY GOSH!! sob sob sobbing!! What a touching story and a wonderful memory of your heart!!

I made a quilt for my sisters fiance' last year and sent it to him via postal service. I received a phone call a few days later from 'Red', I could barely make out what he was saying because he was crying so. He said that the quilt was too pretty and that he was going to put it away so that it wouldn't get ruined. I said you are NOT going to put it away, you are going to use it!! And everytime you use it you think of how much love was put into making that quilt and you will think of your future sister-in-law and know that she loves you. "Yes, ma'am" he said. I said you take it everywhere you go...the doctor visit, the hospital, for chemo treatment, where ever you go the quilt goes. HE said "okay" and could not thank me enough.

Sadly Red passed away not too long after that phone conversation.....but I will never forget that day.

I don't think there has ever been a more delightful time in my life where the true heart of love shown through. He touched my heart with his kind words and I felt the love of God through it all. I still get a knot in my throat thinking about that phone call.

So many of these stories are very touching, and all of them have been a joy to read. Now I know why I love quilting and quilters!

I have been so lucky, everyone I've given a quilt to has said very nice words, not all the same words, but all nice words.
No way could I remember all the nice words nor who said them. I have given away so many, I just know all were very happy with them and love them.

When my father wanted to be burried in one of the western shirts I made him,wrapped in a quilt.

A dear friend of mine was dying of cancer, at home, and she didn't have family around her area. I drove to be with her, the last 2 weeks of her life, and in that time, I made a quilt , thick, warm ( she was freezing all the time those last weeks ), and as she had me cover her up tight, she started crying and told me that the quilt was the warmest thing she had ever felt, but not just because it was a quilt. She said it was the warmed hug of love that she wanted to be buried in when she was ready to meet the Lord.. and thats what she was wrapped in... A hug of Love.. I will always remember her words, until the day I die.

What a wonderful friend you were to your friend...sniff..oh gosh, touches my heart.

And I will always remember this story, brings tears to my eyes but I think they are more for the joy you brought her.

My favorite respoonse was about the quilt I'm making for my daughter and she said "your grandchildren will be conceived under this quilt, I'll never sleep without it."

Of course I still get a kick out of "you quilt?" with a look of absolute disbelief! What's up with that anyway???

I made my best friend's son and dil a red fleece baby quilt that you tie the nots in and appliqued firemen stuff like dalmations, water hydrant, etc. on it and my girlfriend told me that was the baby's favorite blankie, she sucked on the knots to help her go to sleep. She is 6 now and still takes it everywhere with her. Needless to say, it is a little tattered and worn.
