What's your favorite fast quilt pattern?

I'm finding myself burried in ~1/8 -1/2 yd pieces. I'm like a magpie seeing something shiny at my sewing my group. I gravitate towards the smaller pieces thinking I can do something then I have a whole bunch and I lose my creative-ness to plan or sew because I just have so much. I have a system for small scraps I posted photos the other day. http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...s-t176598.html

The bigger pieces I feel I should be doing something more-not sure what. I also have a cutting fabric phobia. It's like as long as the fabric is whole there is a lot of potential.

I've done all the basics-4 patch, 9 patch, d9p, rail fence, scrappies from quiltville and maryquilts, lasagnas , best wishes, log cabins.

What quilt pattern have you used are fast and still attractive, when you need a quilt quickly? I still want them to be quality even it it's fast.

Please include links to unusual ones or write out directions if it's your idea and you want to share.

Oh, I make QFK's and QOV's.

Right now I like the Tossed Nine Patch by Eleanor Burns. Fast and interesting.

lfstamper 01-29-2012 05:40 PM

Easy Breezy is the easiest one I know of.

It looks like a center panel with scrappy borders.

Warm Wishes is fast and pretty. I love the Snowball and 9 Patch together.

That pattern would be soooo easy to do without the pattern. You just use a piece of focus fabric (or a panel if you got one) and then do a scrappy piano key boarder around the edges!

kathdavis 01-29-2012 06:58 PM

The 10-minute block can we be made with any size squares. I use them a lot for the back of my quilts and have done baby quilts with that pattern.

Lucky Stars by Atkinson Designs works up quickly and looks more complicated than it is. Although it calls for FQs, you could easily use fat eighths instead for a scrappier look. Here's a link to some I made.

Yellow Brick Road, Tossed Nine Patch, Disappearing 4-Patch....

Wow, those are amazing. You did a great job choosing your colors. I'm envious of people who understand color and what goes well together. Luckily I have a lady in my group that I run my colors by if I have something picked out. She'll look at it and say, "this shade is too blue for what you need, you need something more...." And I've found she's right.

Cacklinghen 01-30-2012 07:39 AM

just depends on the mood i am in when i get started--10 min-stars-9 patch???

AnnieH 01-30-2012 01:07 PM

Have just ordered the Lucky Stars pattern as katier825's look fabulous.

I like the Quick Trip and Quick Quarter quilts by Eleanor Burns.

gollytwo 01-30-2012 01:27 PM

I'm doing up 2 Warm Wishes for teenage boys right now.
They go together fast and always look good.
Am using sports and local animals as the focus blocks

GrannieAnnie 01-30-2012 01:53 PM

Looked up the TOSSED 9 PATCH. LOL, another name for the D9P! I do like this for an easy quilt. And I made several of the TURNING 20 quilts --------------personal quilt sized last summer.

happyquiltmom 01-30-2012 02:06 PM

A few of my faves...

Just Can't Cut It, Take 5, Take 5 Flips a Coin...but my very favorite is Crazy Eights. It's crib size, takes 8 FQs, plus a border if you want, but not necessary. Easy peasy!

TanyaL 01-30-2012 02:26 PM

Unless you like the hodge-podge look of the unplanned scrappy quilt, the beauty of ANY fast quilt is entirely dependent upon the color palette of your fabric choices. If your fabric choices are in the color palette range than you deliberately choose and stick to, then you will have a beautiful quilt, even if it is 12 inch squares, no sashings and a hidden binding. Color is everything. Of course with larger quilt blocks, then your quilting gets a chance to shine.

stampinteresa 01-30-2012 06:47 PM

Patience Corner is fast and easy. We used it and a nine patch to teach beginning quilting this past August. A camp for ages 7 to 107. The little girls and big girls loved it. T

KyKaren1949 01-31-2012 04:02 AM

Take 5 is an easy one. Others I've made with scraps are String quilts on a muslin foundation, Turning Twenties and Yellow Brick Road.

ccthomas 01-31-2012 04:33 AM

The Rail Fence is a good one for fast, ease, colors, variations. The number of rails can make it easier.

Strips and Ladders for a guild raffle quilt. Needed something the members of the guild could do quickly and easily. Then I can add the applique and tada!

The District quilt by Lyn Brown is fast, easy and looks great. I have made 2 recently as baby quilts. If you want to make this really fast, you can use the pre cut layer cakes and charm squares.

quiltinggirl 01-31-2012 05:13 AM

I really like the Hanky Panky pattern, Yellow Brick Road and Turning Twenty. All are very easy to do.

jenniferlrn 01-31-2012 06:53 AM

I really enjoy the yellow brick road patten. I think is is by Attichison company, I am not really sure, but it is quick and simple.

DJ 01-31-2012 07:06 AM

My contribution would be Wickedly Easy. I would post a link, but I can't get it to load. You could do a Google search and maybe it would work for you. It should be a free pattern.

Cooky 01-31-2012 07:16 AM

Is there a free pattern out there for Take Five or do I have to buy the pattern.

DanaNVa 01-31-2012 07:19 AM

I like tube quilting. Sew two jelly roll strips together and press (Group A). Sew a second two together and press (Group B). Sew Group A to Group B on both sides, right sides together. Use a 90 degree angle with the point barely touching the second A-B seam and cut the triangle. Repeat the length of the tube, alternating sides of the seam. You should end up with eight triangles that give you 8 squares (fabric on the diagonal) when pressed open. Arrange them into two blocks & sew together. Repeat until you have the size quilt you want. For a lap quilt, I use 10 strips of each of 4 colors and an additional 5 strips of one color for the binding. You should end up with 24 blocks plus binding.

How about the Uneven Star pattern? Once you get the hang of it, you don't need a pattern, and it looks great scrappy. Some sites say it's paper pieced, but it doesn't have to be. It's a nine patch, and our group did one in three hours with one background and all our scraps for a family in need. We sashed it, and had uneven star corner stones.

quiltnutt 01-31-2012 09:15 AM

My favorite fast and easy pattern is Wicked Easy . The pattern is designed bywww. ByAnnie.com. It is a free pattern ..I liek it because you can use FQ or scraps from your stash.
I make this for the comfort quilts or a fast gift.

Slow2Sew 01-31-2012 10:14 AM

Warm Wishes is my go-to quick quilt. It's great for focus fabrics, is easy to piece and looks a lot more difficult.

JanTx 01-31-2012 11:29 AM

I don't think anyone has mentioned "Cheaper by the Dozen". Like Turning 12 and Yellow Brick Road it uses fat quarters - 12 of them. I also have used "Cheaper by the Half Dozen" for a baby size. Those 3 are my go-to's for quick ones. Also have used Wickedly Easy and Warm Wishes.

Patterns from Fabric Cafe are very quick and easy - I adjust them as needed for the size I need.

KathyPhillips 01-31-2012 02:25 PM

I like the Log Cabin Quilt in a Day from Eleanor Burns. You said you have made a log cabin and one of El. Burns', but not this one? It is easily strip pieced! You can divide the darks and lights and make it scrappy with the darks on two squares of the block and the lights on the other two sides. Then use medium scrappies for the borders.

Kathy

Log cabin!

burchquilts 01-31-2012 02:51 PM

My old stand by? I like Yellow Brick Road & have made it in every single & color variation known to man... LOL! But I can do a lap size or smaller in a day (an afternoon if the dog doesn't need let out too often... LOL!), so it's my tried & true/

burchquilts 01-31-2012 03:08 PM

THANK YOU for "turning me on" to this GREAT pattern! I cannot wait to give it a try!

This looks really nice. Thanks for the post.

I love Lucky Stars...takes awhile to do the cutting, but once that is done, the quilt goes together fast. Also, "just" making strip sets, and then 4 patches or 9 patches and setting them together different ways when enough blocks are made. Yellow Brick Road is also a good one for fat quarters.
