In my humble (longarm quilter) opinion, I think once it is quilted up, the texture of the quilting will really bring it to life, and you will love it again. I'll attach a picture, and you can see what I mean. This was quilted with a layer of cotton and a layer of wool batting to make the quilting stand out.

I like the idea of removing the outer border and replacing with a plain or tone on tone color drawn from one of the more prominent colors in your quilt already such as the browns. It would really frame it and tie it all in together - as long as it was in the "darks" family, not a medium tone. You may not need a huge 10" wide border - mine has a 1-1/2" stop border with a 6" outer border. And by the way, nice work!

Inor, I'm not sure exactly what you think is wrong with it but, uh, I'm sure I could, uh, fix it for you....yeah, that's it, that's my story. All you have to do is send it to me. Yeah, yeah, just send it and I'll see if I can figure it out---it might take some time, a couple of years, or maybe longer. LOL LOL

Just tone down the border and I think it will be fine. The top itself if pretty, it's the border that isn't doing it justice.

However if you do decide to throw it out, could you pitch it toward Illinois???? Huh, Huh, pretty please??

Oh BTW, it's too nice to tie, please quilt it after you change the border.

I'm not the expert here but if it twas mine it would be wearing a lovely demin blue border. Soft supple denim. Nice job. Very nice.

The dying of the quilt top is a good idea (not necessarily tie-dying). In a quilting book I have "Great American Quilts 1989" publ. Oxmoor House, is a quilt like this. The maker hated it. She cut it into large pieces in a chevron-type pattern and put it back together with a white strip joining the pieces. Then she dyed the whole thing a deep fuschia. It turned out beautifully!

If you decide you don't want to use anymore time trying to make it suit you better, donate it to a charity and write the donation off on your taxes.

I've been gone several days--and I forgot to check the many pages to this thread before responding about the dying of the quilt. Now that I see your quilt top, I think you'd be happy with it if you used solid colors (some of the colors in the quilt top) for the inner-border and outer-border rather than those prints. I think it might become one of your favorites then.

I like the quilt as is except for outer boarder thats all I would change an quilt it do not tie it.It will take away from it then.

You know, the longer I look at your picture, I would take off the outer border and leave it with just the gold border. I wouldn't add another. I think that would frame it nicely and make the star stand out. Once you have it quilted I think you'll like it. Quilting will add texture and give it a whole different look.
