what pattern are you doing?

As drawn may just mean the way it is showing you on the pattern ,and the straight of grain marking should be followed .It can make a difference in how pieces sew together. And you want to make sure your templete is facing up also.

watterstide, I'm doing "Boxes" by Jinny Beyer, and when I put right sides together (as we're taught to do) the sewing lines are hidden. I know it's probably a simple answer that I'm just not seeing. Thanks, anyway, 80

This instruction doesnt make sense to me. When working with templates, I always draw the sewing lines on the back. I would flip the template and use it on the back...

how can you see the sewing line to sew on it if it is drawn on the top of the fabric????

JCquilts, thanks, my point exactly

Wouldn't the maked line be the cutting line and not the sewing line?

barb_MO...you are a genius...this never occured to me

I wouldn't go so far as to say that ;-) just glad I could be of help. Now, could you direct me to that Boxes pattern?

eightylady 09-10-2010 04:19 PM

Barb_MO...really? jinnybeyer.com A BLOCKaWEEK pattern. You don't believe me, huh?

That's not your sewing line-that's your cutting line. Put your pieces right sides together and stich a 1/4 inch seam. I'm doing the Farmers Wife quilt with templates and it really increases your accuracy if you cut them right on the line.

Oops-just read Barb's post--
