Is there a month of the year, or season, when you do NOT buy as much fabric as other times?

Just wonderin'...

Sadiemae 03-07-2011 11:40 AM

During the winter when the heating bills are the highest, I rarely buy anything.

MadQuilter 03-07-2011 11:40 AM

Right now because I am on a tight budget. It is not looking like that season is changing anytime soon.

DogHouseMom 03-07-2011 11:41 AM

February 30.

I was going to say I'm pretty satisfied with what I already have.... then realized I'm trading some patterns for fabric!!!!!! That has kept me out of the stores for the past month or so.. other than that I don't think there's a particular time when I buy less....

Lori S 03-07-2011 12:05 PM

I buy the least in January and Feb. I am usually coming down from the fall and Christmas stuff I have sewn... and I need a bit of a break... plus I have all the scraps from the Frenzy of it all.
I try to work on the "put aside "project that I may have purchased fabric but just did not get to during the "frenzy time".
The January sales may occasionally break my hibernation or if I just need to have a nice bright fabric in my collection to pick up the dark days.
It seems even the LQS are not getting to much in during Jan.. maybe ... and inventory issue?!!

np3 03-07-2011 12:18 PM

I buy the least amount when there are few or no sales. Just me. I need a bargain or I don't spend. I have too much to just buy more at the regular prices.

jbud2 03-07-2011 12:23 PM

I agree with Lori S. January ad February are my low fabric months. I've been shopping and sewing and wrapping for a couple months previous and I want to do something else all together. I'll do some crocheting and then start a scrappy quilt or finish one of those UFOs. I'm starting to itch now.

Quiltforme 03-07-2011 12:24 PM

Depends on my mood (not time of the month thing) but I am an emotional shopper when the mood hits the CC runs and hides

Blue's quilting mama 03-07-2011 12:24 PM

When I am overwhelmed with projects!
Still have to use the eagle fabric I bought from you....it's next in line after I finish the current quilt.

During the summer when the kids are home on vacation. All the extra money goes to having extra food in the home.

When I run out of money :)

So true! Plus I am out in the garden.

Yeah, I don't seem to have a specific time of year either. Seems I am a feast or famine buyer. I go on massive splurges then abstain for several months, then splurge again then fast again. I do tend to save splurge time for specific events like if I know I am attending a quilt show I will save up purchasing to blow on show specials. But if I stumble across a too good to pass up sale (like the recent fabric depot blowout of batiks for $5 PY) I will not hesitate to stock up. If I am on a serious buying fast I avoid temptation and won't go looking at any sites that may tempt me.

After January to about June I think. In January I may spend a bit using gift cards I've gotten as gifts, but then I'll realize how much fabric I have and how much I spent on fabric before Christmas to do gifts, and I'll resolve to use up my stash. I'll do really good until about June, and then once my resolve breaks, I'll buy like crazy, and then it will be time to start thinking about Christmas gifts again...

lots2do 03-07-2011 02:07 PM

I teach so the beginning of the school year and the end are super busy for me. I tend not to buy much then because I can't find the time! Other than that, I buy in spurts too.

CarrieAnne 03-07-2011 02:09 PM

I think Summer too, just because I am in the garden so much there is less time tosew, quilt or even shop!

barefoot quilter 03-07-2011 02:20 PM

i think it would be the summer time when there is too many things going on in the house and i mean a lot of happy time things family wise love it.

Jennifer22206 03-07-2011 02:23 PM

For me it's January and June-Sept that I don't buy. I teach so the summer is sewing time, and January I'm recovering from Christmas.

LovinMySoldier 03-07-2011 02:36 PM

Summertime! Quilting goes to the wayside when the weather is beautiful out! I live in Western WA so we have more milder summers than a lot of you. We tend to spend the summer outdoors fishing, camping, gardening and just enjoying the sun once the rain finally stops!

DA Mayer 03-07-2011 02:48 PM

I buy the least amount when I don't go to the LQS.

bamamama 03-07-2011 02:52 PM

I've got enough to last me 4 lifetimes.

kateyb 03-07-2011 03:24 PM

Gardening season.

ghostrider 03-07-2011 03:48 PM

On Mondays. All the fabric shops around here are closed on Mondays.

CloverPatch 03-07-2011 03:49 PM

During the Christmas season. Seems everything is a novelty print and all in Christmas theme. Gets me all Christmased out.

debp33 03-07-2011 07:21 PM

December is my slow month. I'm busy finishing up presents with the stash I already have. I rarely buy any then.

I split my spending money between gardening and quilting...so summer I buy the most fabrics (no planting when it's too hot). The rest of the year...well I'm just torn between the two!

libertykm 03-08-2011 03:51 AM

The 7th Tuesday of every month.

Janet My 03-08-2011 03:56 AM

Since my son gave me a $100 Jo-Ann's gift card for Christmas. I've been afraid to go in. LOL I did go in this past Friday to buy 4 spools of thread but ran out in a hurry. I promised myself I would not start on another project until I finished the ones I already have.

One more UFO to go! That's a king size mess I have to pull apart and correct. That should take me into Fall. (I hope not)

AnnieSacha 03-08-2011 04:43 AM

I buy the least fabric during the summer when my attention turns to growing herbs and preserving food for the winter.

weezie 03-08-2011 05:34 AM

Winter. If my hands are cold, they hurt, so I'm less interested in sewing and I'm not interested at all in shopping when the weather is miserable. I do on-line browsing in the winter, but have not much enthusiasm for it.

Fabaddict 03-08-2011 06:00 AM

I would have to say Jan and Feb because I am getting ready to go to Lancaster PA. And I know I am going to buy some there.

quiltmom04 03-08-2011 06:37 AM

Probably summer becasue I'm not inside sewing as much.

thepolyparrot 03-08-2011 06:56 AM

I buy the least fabric and hobby stuff in the late spring through early fall because I'm busy out in the yard all the time. :)
