Years ago I made fabric bowls and found some left overs, don't know if they still have that stiff pellon or not. That worked for me.

I use plastic canvas.

my aunt and I use am board cut to size and then covered with the lining fabric. You can buy the board at local craft stores and maybe even wal-mart in their craft section.

I just completed a tote that was 4" x 15.5" on the bottom. Canvas plastic that I have was not long enough. Pattern called for plexiglass. Went to Home Depot & Lowe's. Neither would cut the plexiglass for me and I don't know how. Finally found a 1/4" thick wood they call craft wood in the lumber section. It was about 20" long. Width was fine. I drew a line and hubby cut it. He sanded it and rounded the corners and sanded them. I made a fabric sleeve out of the lining and used velcro to close it so it can be removed for washing. I plan to get scotchgard to use all over the tote prior to using it. It will repel dirt and be easier to clean.

What craft store carries the wood?

What tool/how do you cut your own plexi glass?

Smaller purses I just use a heavy stabilizer thats like cardboard, its fusible and holds it shape very well. I have been know to use the fabric boards that fabric comes on at our wal-mart, they only sell precuts and that fabric is really stiff.
