I stopped in that shop while I was at the bar b que festival in August. IT is always, clean, neat, cheerfully stocked, decorated and operated. The fabrics are reasonably priced. NO, I do not know Eleanor burns, just a nice little shop.
|
I know OF Mrs Burns, but not personally, by the way. We were amazed at the great prices and helpfulness of the employee there.
|
I've been to the Eleanor Burn's shop in CA and didn't think it was that great. What is the difference between that one and the one in Paducah?
|
are the floors covered in her little scraps???

That "throwing the scraps" really used to irritate me until I said something about it on here. Someone says that she uses them in the end and she also has them bagged up for sale. I guess when she first started she had a bag for scraps taped to her table and the sewing machine company didn't like it and made her get rid of it so she started throwing them over her shoulder. |
She has great sales on line. Lots of 3 dollar a yard in her fabric frensy area.
If you have Direct TV her show is on the RFD channel. Also lots of her shows on her website and on quilterstv http://quiltinaday.com http://quilterstv.com She did tell the story on one of her shows about the director telling her to get rid of the scrap bag and she started throwing them over her shoulder. Its her trade mark now. The best thing about her is she is not greedy like a couple of other famous quilters that charge for watching there shows. |

OMG! I'm going to the Paducah show Wonder if I can get a chance to meet her??? Wow That would be AWESOME! I hope I wouldn't say anything dumb, i tend to babble a little when nervous.
|
For anyone going to Paducah, be sure to check the Quilt in a Day web site for your 30% off one item coupon. There are three different places that it's good at--maybe even one per place.

I will be at the Paducah show, too. Eleanor Burns usually has a tent set up at the fair grounds and has demonstrations. I know many who have attended, I have not gone myself to see her, but "they" all say she is fun to watch, especially in person.
|
Eleanor has tent sales at the fairgrounds and puts on a free show twice a day. She is in her barn always signing books when not engaged in part of the quilt show. She never looks tired or bored not even after the 200th book signing and picture taking of the day. She isn't behind a table or or barricaded off, she's right there in the mix with you. Her shop downtown Paducah has the designer fabric lines, the tents have the fabric frenzy sales. The barn is full of her patterns, completed quilts, gifts, notions, books, and her staff. Her son is always at the tents and he's extremely easy on the eyes! and very friendly just like his mother.
|
She's far funnier in person than on her show. I saw her last year.
|
Wish I could go.

I went to the Paducah store just down the street from the museum. They were very nice and the prices weren't too bad, I got a bunch of fat quarters. Just missed she and her son at the Lancaster quilt show, but did use the 30% off coupon and got the hardcover book, "Still Stripping after 25 years". Hubby wouldn't let me pay to go back to the show the next day just to get her signature....sigh. I really like the book, I think the instructions are the most thorough I've ever seen, lots of pics. Spaced throughout are bits and pieces of the Eleanor Burns story, she is a really gutsy lady! (aren't all quilters ;-) )

I have to meet her. No, I am not a stalker, I just really think she is neat. :) Any tips on finding her? |

When she comes out with new books on her website you can order ahead of time for a signed copy.
I got the Victory Quilt book that way. No way I can get to Paducah. |

Oh u r too funny. I guess I really shouldn't blame him, he did say , I can' t see spending the money just for that, but if it's what u want....." Course then he reminded me that there would most likely be a line and since we were leaving for home in Early afternoon it would severely cut into our time to see the secondary quilt show at the Continental inn and all the other fabulous lqs's ... Opps! He had me there lol |
Husbands know their way around us don't they? LOL

I'm going to Paducah but just for one day. I'd love to go down and spend a couple of days there. Being half Kentuckian (on my momma's side) I love it down there. It's been 9 years since I've been down there for more than just a day. I went to the quilt show in Paducah last year and the year before a whole bunch of people from church went to the Creation Museum in St. Petersburg, Ky. Boy, that was a cool place to see. I especially loved the small part of the Ark that was built to scale. And the hands of Methuselah. They used a 90 some year old man as a hand model. |

Like the analogy that she is the Bob Ross of quilting.
way. I never thought of it that way. Come to think of it, when I watch her show, as I did his, I do go away feeling better. |
I met Eleanor Burns at Madison, Wisconsin quilting expo in 2008, she was the nicest. Billie Lauder, Kaye Woods and several others were there also, all the ladies were the nicest people. This was also true when I was in Pigeon Forge one year. I love to go to the big shows they are so fantastic, wish I could go to Paducah some year.

Thanks for the online site for quilt in a day! Our public tv station airs very few quilting shows.....
|
Went to Houston with DIL to help in her booth a couple years ago---met Elinor Burns there and she signed an old copy of her log cabin book---was very nice---also went to her store in Cal and they were very helpful and you can also call the 800 number in her books and they are very helpful---my first quilt was a king size log cabin---had a few problems and they were great and gave me some very good sujestions

I have taken 4 classes from Eleanor and she is the greatest. She is so down to earth not like other well known quilters. During the classes I took we all went to lunch and she went with us. We did a 3 day retreat with her and she hung out with us after the class and all of her staff are as down to earth as she is. I would take a million classes from her I could. I love being around her .

Thanks for all the additional info and the coupon.

OMG I'm going to the Paducah Show for the first time. Can't wait!
|
My sister and I made our second visit to Paducah a couple years ago and instead of walking to Eleanor's show we took the bus. Since the bus takes a specific route we arrived later than planned. Seats were almost filled, but we did find a couple way in the back. I told my sister we probably won't be able to see a thing that far away. I no sooner said that when my sister nudged me to turn around and no more than a foote to my left was Eleanor preparing to take her stroll down the aisle to the platform. She was promoting her Victory Quilt book, dressed in her Rosie outfit complete with head bandana and black lunch box. She kidded with us as she prepped for the show. That was more a treat to us than the store and the fabric tent.
There also was a Quilt in a Day store in downtown Paducah, but it was packed with so many people that when you got in line, you went with the flow even if you didn't want to move on to the next display. Didn't buy much as the best priced fabrics went fast. But the experience was amazing. I remember the tent of fabric being very picked over and there were long lines at the cutting tables. |

Wow, wish I could go to Paducah, but can't this year. I will try to go in 2011

I took a class with Elearnor Burns at the last Houston quilt show. She is such a delight!!! She got right in there with us and was so much fun. She let us handle the quilt that had been given to her that was made from the original old newspaper pattern. I have a picture of me holding the quilt. It must be close to 100 years old. (Not much older than me!!! Ha) Would post it if I remembered where I put it. She had a trunk show before we started the class. It was Magic Vines. She is just so down to earth. My daughter and I met face to face with one of two quilters that have a regular show on TV. She chose to look away and not even a look our way. Her show is not nearly as interesting any more! Eleanor is just as she appears with a smile always on her face.
